How long do you want to ignore this user?
Booked a cruise with Viking. Their travel insurance seems really expensive at $600 a person.

Can anyone suggest something more reasonable?

Thanks!

Travel insurance is a little different through the cruise lines but it's all based on the total cost of your trip and if airfare is included, etc...

In our agency, we use Travel Insured or Arch Roam Right for third party travel insurance options for clients.
Also, some credit cards offer coverage but make sure to read the fine print.

I'd be happy to send you more information about our third party insurance plans.

I also use Travel Insured and RoamRight. Used to be RR almost 100% of the time, but the last 20+ policies I have sold have all been Travel Insured. Their pricing is better and their coverage is quite a bit higher. I've sold 8 TI policies to Texagers in the past month.

Here is the kicker - Viking does have a "cancel for any reason" (CFAR) policy, but it is in future travel credits if its a non-covered reason.

You can get CFAR with Travel Insured or RoamRight, but its quite a bit more. It also only reimburses at 75% if its the "any reason" part AND must be canceled at least 48+ hours before the trip start time. So if you try to cancel 1 day prior and it is not a "covered" reason, you are out of luck.

Bumping this to ask the experts a travel insurance question…

Does standalone CFAR insurance exist? Meaning, can you buy a CFAR policy that is not an add-on to a base policy?

Our situation is that we're taking an expensive adults-only trip to Europe next year and our kids will be split between grandparents. Our Chase Sapphire should suffice for travel insurance on obvious covered events, but one of our real risks is that something happens with grandparents to jeopardize our childcare, which would necessitate CFAR insurance.

A base travel policy feels like a waste of money, given the coverage through our credit card, but we want to get CFAR in the event we have to cancel on account of the childcare situation. Does such a policy exist? Thanks!

Not that I know of. It is bundled with medical and cancellation. And most CFAR only pays a portion back (vendor I use is 75%) and must be canceled at least 48 hours in advance of the trip if it isn't a "covered" reason.

It would be my suggestion that you call the company to see if the grandparents getting sick would be a covered reason if they were your childcare. It's possible it would be, but honestly, I would probably want it in writing. CFAR is a lot more expensive.
