We plan to start taking our kids and grandkids on trip every two years. The grandkids are 4 and 2. Anyone have ideas on fun adult destinations that also work for little ones? Thanks!

Oddly enough, New Orleans fits this bill.

Great Zoo and great aquarium.

Swamp tours. WWII museum.

Mississippi River tours.

Plenty to do for both kids and adults.
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, it's still on the list.

So fun!!

What time of year would y'all be looking at? Will it be mostly summer or will it vary with each trip?

Probably spring or late spring. We could do summer, but would like to avoid the crowds. We've discussed Disney Cruise and National Parks, but the ages of our grandkids seem to be a limiting factor on Disney cruise based on feedback.

Totally understand! Summer crowds can be a mess to deal with, but sometimes unavoidable once the kids are in school (that's where I find myself now that my mine are old enough).

Disney cruise is a great option, they do an amazing job. I do agree maybe 4yo & 2yo are too young to get a lot out of it, but I would definitely pencil it in for a future trip!

- Agree with the Hilton Head suggestion! Great spot for multi-gen travel
- Once they're old enough to go to ski school, I'd suggest that! A lot of the lodges will have kids camps and ski school so the adults can ski and enjoy aprs ski. (Definitely early spring time before the snow is gone)
- The North East (Virginia, Mass, Maine, Vermont, & Upstate NY) have become popular in later spring and into summer. Some great family locations with activities for all ages. Options for cabins or hotel rooms. Weather is absolutely perfect
- Alaskan cruise/cruise tours are another top recommendation. Great mix of cruising and the inland excursions. (Again, probably a future trip so they'll remember more of it.)

Really so many options, depends on if you want relaxation or adventure. Hotels or cabins. Beach or Mountains! I love the idea, some of my kids favorite memories have been vacations with the grandparents.

Happy to answer any questions or help out if needed!

Great info. We have talked ski trip since the adults all ski. We're thinking the 4 year old could maybe do ski school. We're pretty familiar with Keystone, so I need to do some checking to see if they have a kids camp.
Kreg17

Yeah! Most ski schools start around 3yo.

I'm not sure if Keystone has a kids camp but I know Aspen, Breck, Beaver Creek, Park City & Deer Valley do.

Northern San Diego / LA Jolla has beaches, nice weather year round, and fun attractions for kids. You're also a short drive to Legoland and (a little farther) to Disneyland.

When I was in my 20s, I used to laugh at people who did this.

Now that I'm in my 50s, I've decided that I'm going to become one of these people because frankly, I've got more money available than I've got time left. And with my father passing earlier this year at age 88, you can never get that time back.

I had a good conversation with a parent peer from my daughter's swanky private girls school circa 2008. He was 59 at the time and the way he described it was, you've only got a certain number of years that you're going to be mobile. And when you start looking at school schedules, vacations, etc., you've only got a certain number of times that you can do something like that with your family. At his age, he put it at about 20 more times. So the point is, you've really got to make the most of those 20 times (or at my age now, maybe 25 times).

I'm planning to take my family and grandkids to Puerto Rico during Spring Break 2026 during the World Baseball Classic.

Other times in the future, I envision a few ski trips, etc. Probably to Alaska, Colorado, California/Nevada.

I wouldn't mind making another trip down The Rhine and I would be interested to go back to Egypt.

In my opinion, everyone should have the opportunity to go on Safari in Kenya.

And based on my background, I definitely see a trip to Saudi Arabia somewhere in those future plans.

We've already done Disneyland and Universal Studios but, I'd love to do Legoland again, and maybe that new Epic in Orlando.

Probably throw in some camping when the kids get older.

We did Keystone and Breck when our kids were little.
Both had all day programs once they were 3 y/o and potty trained.

Thanks to all. Great info. Agree with above on age and travel. We're 58 and extremely mobile still. You never know when that becomes an issue

Our best multi-generational trips have been ski trips. We started going regularly with my in-laws when my daughter (she's the youngest in the extended family) was 3 so she could go to ski school while the rest of us skied. By the time she was 7, she was proficient enough to join us.

Park City is our favorite - lots to do for non-skiers as well as great walkability in town and snow related activities that everyone can do together since we don't all ski at the same level.

We've also really, really enjoyed these places with my parents and siblings:

New England (Maine, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire specifically) in the Summer.

Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge in the Spring

Glacier National Park in the Summer (would not recommend with little kids unless they're already experienced hikers. We went when my daughter was 9).

Disneyland (this trip was such a dream. Highly recommend over Disney World for little kids).

Not sure what you mean by Kids Camp but Breck, Beaver, Vail and Keystone don't run camps during the winter and never have.

They run full day or half day groups and privates OR they run seasonal developmental programs like DEVO, BEVO, and Breck Bombers. They also have some boutique offerings but nothing that's a camp like they offer in the summer. Those just don't exist in the winter months for the VR Hills in CO.

NO lessons last through Apres. NONE. All end at 3:00/3:30 or at the LATEST 4:00pm. Apres doesn't start until the hill closes and NONE operate outside of the normal ski hill hours.

So not sure what camps you're talking about that extended into Apres.

Park City runs a 3 day "academy" and a 5 day "college" lesson set but they arent camps, they just a lesson package. The same green guarantee that BC and Vail do but they arent camps they're just multi day lesson packages. The only true camps through PC are the Woodward MLK/Presidents day 3 day clinics. Usually those are for 7-18.

I've taught at all of those mountains.

The only "camps" that exist during the ski season in CO are at Copper Mountain Camp Woodward and Eldora Woodward. I've never been affiliated w the Edlora operation so I can't speak to it but the CWCM does offer true free style and multi discipline camps w trampoline foam pit, balsa wood protos and on mountain instruction in the terrain park.

My wife teachs at PC and CM Woodward.

Beaver Creek also runs a day care program (Vail and other VR mountains dont) called Small World but it also ends at 4:00pm

The closet thing Vail would have to a camp would be the Her Turn program which Is a 3 day lesson package that focuses specifically on female empowerment and doesn't allow Men to participate.

Snowmass has Treehouse for child Care at the base of Snowmass but it also ends at mountain close not after Apres.

Aspen/Snowmass/Hughlands/Butter also have Developmenal program like Devo Bego etc but that's also not a camp it's a multi week instructional Developmental program for locals and it books up in about 30 minutes w a wait list longer than you can imagine.

Outside of Woodward, kids camps are all in the summer. They don't exist in the winter months.

That being said, Woodward is for the students that what to elevate to the next level that isn't available through the ski school offerings. It is NOT a ski school. It's a place you go once you're a level 6/7/8 and want to progress more in a specific area or discipline. Its NOT a ski school to teach you how to ski. It's there to refine your skills once you have a foundation.

Sorry for the long posts I just wanted to clarify the information that was being provided since my better half was the head of DEVO and the ski school manager or assistant manager for the I-70 VR mountains for years: Vail/BC/Breck/Keystone. She also helped start the small world program at BC and was one of the directors of Tree House at Snowmass CSS and later the terrain park and the Highlands Development Program when our youngest was learning to ski before we moved to Mexico.

Also, you can start the kid in private lessons at any age then advance into group lessons once leveled. They don't care honestly about age. What they care about is potty trained. Our youngest started at Vail at age 2 and was in group lessons with 6/7/8 year olds by age 3 and in Devo at age 4.

The one weird kicker is snowboards, they won't start a student on a snowboard until age 5. They will not make an exception on age for snowboards. Doesn't matter of you try to take it as a private, they won't do it. Ski yes, snowboards no.

Now If You need child Care for Apres or for nights out, I got a list from Telluride to Park City from Steamboat to Vail to Aspen to Winter Park and Back about 5 times.

It won't be through the resort though but if you do decide to bite the bullet lmk and im happy to share it with ya.
