There's no shortage of good beers to be had and brew pubs, etc. At SLT, I recommend - Lake Tahoe Aleworx, The Y (they have more than one location) In Sparks, I recommend - Revision Brewing
The drive down both I-80 and US-50 through the mountains towards Sacramento is incredible. You just have to mind the weather because the snowstorms in that area can be deadly.
If you get as far west as Shingle Springs, CA, I highly recommend Back Forty BBQ. It's as close to Texas as you can get in NorCal. https://www.backfortytexasbbq.net/
If you find yourself in need of any outdoor gear, Reno does have an REI but, for late season ski gear deals, I highly recommend Bobos Ski & Patio. I've found some great deals in there on socks, jackets, ski bibs, etc.
There are lots of good drives through the mountains. I recommend Nevada State Highway 341 up to Virginia City and Nevada State Highway 431 towards Lake Tahoe.
I never really got much out of Virginia City other than Kettle Korn (by the way the lady who runs it is a firecracker) but tourists seem to love it and motorcycle gangs. Most of the motorcycle guys are cool but, just don't act like a moron and you'll be fine.
If you get out in the wilderness beyond your driving capabilities, 775 Offroad & Recovery will come to your assistance. https://775ofr.com/
One thing to keep in mind is that with snow and erosion from runoff, many mountain trails change quickly. I've spent a lot of time on Toll Road near Geiger Grade. There are a bunch of YouTube videos that chronicle the changes over time.
And for kicks, here's a David Coverdale video featuring Reno in the background at the end.
Did a work gig in Reno a few years ago and didn't get out much but I enjoyed Jimboy's Tacos and Port of Subs. We ate casino buffet a couple times plus I made a point to hit fast food joints like A&W and Del Taco that I didn't normally have access to but overall I really liked Reno.
