I have some AMEX points I'm looking to transfer eventually. I'm a big Marriott guy and there's an offer through 11/30 to swap at a 30% bonus from AMEX points to Bonvoy.

Is this a good offer or should I hold off as I'm not going to travel until 2026?

I'm eyeing Marriott, Delta, and British Airways (since I have AA miles and would use a combo for wife and my flght to Europe at some point)

I'm kicking this around too; usually I just use them to pay for FHR stays but I have gotten some great Bonvoy redemption rates over the years at the high-end resorts and need to top off the account.

Even at 30% bonus the conversion rate isn't anything spectacular but it could be worth it considering you already have a trip in mind next year.

2026 is right around the corner so if you know when and where you'll travel, then I'd take advantage of ye bonus. Preemptively transferring convertible points to a non-convertible currency is not recommended unless you have a specific redemption in mind. You may change your mind or they could devalue the program (again).

I dont think its that good of a deal. The better deal is being able to transfer to Hilton and getting 2x Hilton points.

Transferring credit card points for hotels is seldom a good redemption rate, with Chase to Hyatt sometimes being an exception. You'll often find it better to pay cash and save the points for flights. To know for sure, calculate the value per point by taking the cash price / points.

I grabbed a weekend at the Gaylord Texan in December, a fun place our family likes to go each year to see the ice exhibit. The 2 nights are 121,000 points (or 94,000 with the transfer bonus) versus $423/night cash, so that's about $0.009 (less than one cent per point) redemption.

Those same points could be used to book a one-way economy AA ticket (booked through Qantas) from DFW directly to Dublin, Rome, Paris, or London for 25,000 points, with the return being a similar amount. Business class with a connection to Barcelona is 98,000 points.

TLDR: If you think you might ever want to fly business class to Europe, save the points as they'll go a lot longer there.

Hilton points are only worth about 0.4 cpp and Marriott are worth about 2x that. That's why Amex transfers 2:1 to Hilton and 1:1 to Marriott

Echoing what a few have already said, Amex to Marriott is almost always a horrible deal. Consider the baseline value for Amex points which is redeeming it for a gift card at a store that you frequent - 100 points is worth $1. Anything below that is bad.

Now go on Marriott's app and see the cash price for a hotel that goes for 30,000 points and you find those typically available for $150 or less. Sometime you'll see outliers for expensive properties during peak season like Maui during the Christmas break but do the math.

The only other scenario that makes sense is if you are a few thousand points short and need to top off your account.

Well you can't really look at basic, budget hotels imo. Yes, that's a bad deal. But the hotels that are $1k a night and 60k points are a much better deal. (Don't do Marriott so not exactly sure of their valuations/costs, but these are the types of Hilton hotels I book w/ points)

Absolutely but the problem is that 60,000 point rooms typically go for around $300. If you have Marriott points to burn then fine because you can make an argument that it'll just get devalued further so use it or lose it but in this case, you can get 2x the value by just getting a gift card.
