What time of year & how long will you stay?
Are you wanting to roadtrip around the island or do day trips from 1-2 locations?
For things to do, are you looking for active things or more like "go & see"?

My clients did a tour with Collette. There are other vendors as well who have a whole package. The good thing is you are paired with a local expert.

I've been twice (my only repeat visit to a foreign country). The first time we did all the usual things, and the second we did more out of the way stuff. Let me know if you want either itinerary!

Lots of great recs already but one more hotel that wasn't mentioned that's worth a stay is the Umi Hotel.

Also I definitely did not appreciate just how desolate it can be. Everyone said "there's no where to stop or eat" but there's really nothing. Would highly recommend loading up on some stuff while in Reykjavik.

Iceland is incredible. Make sure you allocate a day for a "Super Jeep" tour. Ours was a modified 80s van with massive tires. They will take you offroad into the interior and you will see stuff you can't get to on the normal tours.

It's otherworldly terrain.

We went in August which is the warmest time of year. Avg daily temp was about 50 when we there so it was perfect. I'm not sure I would want to go there in actual winter. You can still do all kinds of winter stuff in August like hike glaciers, etc.
