New year means new region - and this year I've picked up Tulsa.

Looking on Maps I see a good collection of breweries etc.; that said looking on street view it doesn't look like anything has been "gentrified" yet and it may not be the best place to wonder on foot.

How safe/good is staying downtown?
Is it walkable?
Anything I should know about or see/do?
Any areas to avoid?
Any good food places?
Best breweries/pubs?

We live in the Tulsa area (Bixby) and love it. Metro area is around 1MM folks. Big enough to have everything you want with the hugeness of a Houston or Dallas. Tulsa gets some negative attention due to that First 48 show but those scenes are filmed in a 6 block area of North Tulsa and really doesn't show the true city..

Areas to stay away from:
The noted above areas of North Tulsa and 61st and Peoria.

Breweries to visit:
Nothings Left and Marshall's Breweries… Both located on 6th Street in the Pearl District.

Restaurants to hit:
Mahogany's Steak House on Yale.
Ti Amo at 61st and Sheradon
Brothers Hooligan on Yale (casual)
Smoke on Cherry Street

Make sure you visit Cain's Ballroom. Famous old dance hall/music venue that's famous for being Bob Wills and The Texas Playboys home for several years…

As far as downtown we go to quite a few shows and events at the BOK Center and have never had any issues walking to and from our vehicle. Tulsa does a nice job of keeping officers in the popular areas of downtown. Downtown has some real cool architecture. Enjoy your visits!

Went there for a work trip a few years ago and enjoyed it so much, we have been visiting every year since and have really enjoyed the area.

Neighborhood JAM is a delicious breakfast/brunch place.
Tulsa Drillers AAA baseball has been really fun to attend.

There's a nice long walking or bike trail along the river. River Parks East Trail
Turkey Mountain is a great place to do some mild nature hiking.
If you have kids that you would ever bring, the Gathering Place is one of the best parks in the nation.

Used to always stay in Broken Arrow for work, pretty good suburb of Tulsa.

It's stayed rented for the last 3+ years so must be doing something right. I have a travel client that lives there too.

We're in the process of moving to South Tulsa/Jenks. My wife grew up there, and I'm excited - it's a great city with a great mix of small town / big city amenities.

Italian - dalesandros near downtown on Boston
Cafe Ole for passable texmex. It's amazing how very average texmex in dallas is superior to anything I've had there

Still looking for a great Bbq restaurant
