What say you guys?

We would prefer a water park or similar, but as long as the kids are entertained, i am not certain a water park is an absolute. Kids are between 5-12 y/o - three families of four, Sept 3rd-7th.

I would suggest Xcaret Riviera Maya & Hyatt Ziva Cancun. Beaches Resort in Turks & Caicos just went through a renovation but the logistics are a bit tougher than Mexico (limited direct flights) and it's more expensive than both of the other options but it's a beautiful place.

If you aren't already working with an agent, I would love to assist. My email is in my profile. There are a lot of great family friendly, all inclusive resorts that are great for families.

Some of my top sellers are Dreams Playa Mujeres, Hotel Xcaret, Hard Rock Riviera Maya and others. It all depends on your wants and price point.

In Punta Cana I sell a lot of Dreams Macao, Dreams Onyx and Hyatt Ziva.

Beaches Turks is awesome but at a higher price point. But not as high end as the price point suggests.

I'd focus less on a full water park and more on resorts built for kids 512 a strong kids clubs, daily activities, and fun pool setups (slides/lazy rivers). Budget and flight time to the destination will matter just as much in narrowing the right fit.

I'd avoid anywhere on the coast of Quintana Roo unless its somewhere along Costa Mujeres or Holbox or Isla Mujeres.

Xcaret is amazing for families if you don't mind all of the fake mayan BS and crazy prices. I'd hate to pay Xcaret prices and get sargazod like the photos below.

Yes, they have people to help clean the beaches but that isn't always possible.

You're planning during PEAK sargazo season, so I'd either look at the places I've provided above or the Pacific Coast of Mxico. We live here and it seems to be getting worse and worse every year. Usually we have almost nothing until April/May. This year were already at 1,300 tons and growing.

There will be people that tell you, "Don't worry, they clean it, Itll be fine." Take a look at the pictures and ask yourself "for the price is it worth it to take the risk?". They got sold the "don't worry, they clean it" and look what it earned them.

We live here and id be sper suspect on anywhere in QRoo from now until probs end of October.

Xcaret looks full (or really limited inventory) for your dates anyway, at least with rooms big enough for the families you've listed.

Atlantis isn't an all inclusive, not in the traditional sense anyway.

Given that Sept is peak Hurricane season and apparently still Sargassum as well I would suggest looking at Cabo if you want to mitigate both of those risks.

Top recommendation is Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos.

Others on here have liked Hard Rock & Grand Fiesta, but they're not my cup of tea.

Grand Velas is an all inclusive with a great kids club but no true water park and typically not as high energy on the activity side.

Royalton splash fit this bill for us and two other families, kids 7-10.

Lazy river, great kids club, multiple pools, huge water park on site and no extra fee, really big water play area for toddler ages, all evening shows were entertaining. Tons of food options and the finer dining options were really good.

It's south of CUN a bit, but not quite to riviera maya.

We got a swim out room for all of $3k for a week, family of 4, in october 2024.
We had no seaweed.. but I'd pay attention to others in this thread about the current status of all that.
We did have two days with 'red tide' or whatever.. Beach was calm and small waves on the days we did go out there. We preferred the pools/water parks.

If you do Royalton Splash, I'd recommend upgrading to the diamond level. When we went a few years ago, drinks were subpar and choices limited being "a regular". The diamond pool/beach area was not crowded- we had a waiter come serve us because obviously he wanted tips and they had all the top shelf liquors. He got in trouble with his boss for catering to us. Was a bit ridiculous considering we were just at the beach and in no one's way. Waterpark- kids loved.

We did a bit of research before hand and discovered as marriott platinum members that some of the diamond club perks spilled over for us. Namely the pool/beach access and better drink choices. We asked about pricing and they wanted way too much, considered at that point we'd just be getting the butler/room amenity upgrades.

Just something to consider.

I second Beaches TCI but you are traveling during the heart of seaweed season and I'm not sure what they have to deal with these days. As noted above Atlantis is also great for kids and there is plenty to do regardless of seaweed.

Safe bet would be somewhere along the Pacific or Aruba.

Just checked out of Beaches Turks & Caicos. No seaweed to speak of, Sept is hurricane season so I would recommend travel insurance if you're considering coming here just for peace of mind.

I would try to stay in Treasure Beach Village (it's brand new) or Italian Village (interiorly renovated). Lots of pools and the water park is looked like fun!

The Hibachi and Steakhouse had the best food, also the food trucks were great!

If you or your kids have particular snacks you like, bring them. There are essentially no snacks to speak of other than chips and cookies.

How do you get to this place, helicopter in? Pontoon boat?

It's only about a mile east of the main highway that goes south from CUN. There's a small 2 lane road going in and out to this one and 2-3 other neighboring resorts.

Just know that this area is very prone to seaweed. Even on good days, the beach area is not great. Some people don't care about beaches, some do. But they do have quite a few amenities for kiddos.

Id agree even without seaweed, the beach is an after thought. It's nice if you have small kids and don't want big waves, but otherwise it's more like a lake shore.

If you are going in September, I'd choose a place in Aruba or West Coast of Mexico.
In Aruba, you won't have any hurricane worries and from what I've seen the sargassum isn't a big issue there. No sargassum issues for West Coast of Mexico resort areas either. I suggest Huatulco or Punta Mita.
