My lovely bride and I have scheduled our honeymoon for the end of May (week after Memorial Day). We will be gone 5 days with 2 of them being travel days. We've chosen California as neither one of us have ever been. Hotel has already been booked in a small town maybe 20-30 mins north of San Diego.

So my question to you all… how should we fill the time? What are some things we could do that aren't too far of a drive away (we plan to have a rental car). I've considered San Diego , maybe some parks, the beach of course, but I just wanted to maybe get a place to start my research. Side note: neither one of us are big drinkers really. Thanks in advance!

20-30 minutes north of San Diego will put you close to Oceanside. Take her to Blade 1936 in Oceanside for a great Italian meal. Cool building and outstanding food and wine.

Dinner in LaJolla/sea lion beach at LaJolla Cove

Hike down to the beach at the cliffs at Torrey Pines, watch the gliders/parasail

Coronado Island/Hotel Coronado

Breakfast/Brunch on the beach at hotel Coronado

We had a good lunch at Casa Reyes in Old Town Mission

Does the small town have a name?

Plan on getting on another plane and go to northern California

I saw the Green Flash there as the sun went below the horizon.

My advice…get ChatGPT and give it some prompts for where you'll be and what kind of activities you're into. It will give you a lot of great ideas to dig into further.

20-30 min north of San Diego is about 5 miles. Traffic on the highway is terrible.

We also really enjoyed Del Mar and the dining scene there.
I've had some friends do a food tour in Encinitas and Carlsbad that they enjoyed.
Carlsbad Flower Fields are very pretty and should still be in full bloom possibly.
I've also heard that sunset at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas is nice as well.

Skip the flower fields. I'd suggest going to Lowe's or Home Depot if you want to look at flowers. Never understood the appeal of paying those ticket prices to walk though a field of flowers that are produced for sell to retailers.

Temecula vineyards if you're into wine
Day trip to Catalina islands on a ferry
Have to do a day trip to Coronado island/Hotel Del
Torrey Pines if you're into golf.
