Check out Mystic and into Watch Hill.
I lived in CT for 4 years. It's not overly exciting but it is nice… and that area on the coast I loved during the summer.
My son and I did this trip last summer. We were in New Haven for a couple of days. Best sandwich I've ever had was a chopped cheese at Munchies a couple of blocks from Yale. There's a bakery next door that's worth checking out as well. Great art museums and history museums at Yale.
Spent a day in Newport touring the mansions. Always good.
Watch Hill was THE surprise of the trip. We were looking for a lighthouse to take in. We found this one and so we parked and started walking around. It's like these gigantic houses and finely manicured places just popped up out of nowhere! The lighthouse did not disappoint. Neither did the walk to it. There's one street in Watch Hill and there's a little burger/ice cream stand next to the town carousel that sells delicious lobster rolls.
So we are eating dinner and I'm thinking, "Who lives here? What's the deal with this place?" So I google it. Conan O'Brien and Taylor Swift have places there.
