Hi,
we are thinking about doing an Alaskan Cruise this summer. Is it worth the extra money for the Disney Cruise? We have a 9 year old

My opinion is that in Alaska it isn't worth the premium unless your 9 year old is really into Disney characters. The kids areas are better on Disney, and the ability to send your kids to play while you eat dinner with your wife is nice, but I don't think it's worth extra $$$

When we've done RCL and Norwegian, we spent more time off the ship and even missed main dining room dinner coming back from an excursion. My kids were 11 & 8 when we did our last Alaska cruise.

I prefer Disney over the other lines out of Florida, but that's mostly due to their islands being better and more inclusive than others.

When I cruise, it's almost always on Disney.

Disney has the best kids clubs of any cruise line. The attention to detail in everything is incredible. Great customer service. Good food. Overall just a very good family experience. There's much less of a party atmosphere than on non-Disney cruises I've been on.

It's a bit more expensive, yes, but I feel there's enough added value to justify it. And the clientele is obviously different than on a much cheaper Carnival cruise.

We're flying to Singapore soon to cruise on their new ship Adventure and then next June in Alaska.

Disney is definitely a good option for an Alaskan cruise. As others mentioned, Disney is just pretty much top-notch in everything that they do.

The caveat I want to throw out there though is that Disney does not visit Glacier Bay. Glacier Bay is kind of seen as the crown jewel of Alaska. The only three major cruise lines that visit Glacier Bay are Princess, Holland America, and Norwegian Cruise Line. While I know you don't spend a ton of time on the ship, the first two wouldn't have a lot of kid amenities although they do have kids clubs.

My youngest is 10 so close to the same age. I've cruised Alaska last summer on Disney and have had several clients doing that itinerary this year. I've sailed the Disney Wonder 3 times and I know the price point is higher than RCL and Norwegian but for that age I think it's money well spent. If you are not working with a travel advisor and would like someone with first hand experience in Alaska my contact info is in my bio
