Planning a trip to Chicago for the family for a few days. Family of 5, but kids are mostly grown. Any good hotel recommendations in the loop? Any suites that can accommodate 5 people or should I be planning to just book 2 rooms?

AirBNB / VRBO good option?

It's outside the Loop, but we stayed at the Kasa Magnificent Mile last year for the Notre Dame game and had a great experience. They have units that will accommodate five. Ours had two full baths, a queen bed, two twins, and a sofa bed. We never felt like safety was an issue nearby or walking to and from the Loop. It has a Whole Foods across the street and we even had tailgate supplies delivered there for gameday. They also have a South Loop location that may be an option for you.

I know the Langham, St. Regis, & InterContinental have two room suites but I think you'd be better off price-wise booking connecting rooms.

I don't know about the Chicago location, however the Langham in NYC has a family suite that fits our family of 5 pretty comfortably.

It's not in the loop, but the Drake actually has some pretty reasonable rates, and is a fantastic location. Also the best martinis in town if you are into that.

As far as vacation rentals, I used to own a couple of buildings at 55 and 57 E Cedar. I sold them to different people who turned both into vacation rentals. Living in the neighborhood, I often saw people on their way out, and they always had good things to say. Like the Drake, E Cedar is a fantastic location.
