Virginia was a great state, lived all over it - Richmond metro, VA Beach, Springfield, Portsmouth / Norfolk etc. and still have relatives in Poquoson and Newport News. Mountains, beaches, great history and pretty diverse overall, but I still prefer Florida.

Colorado is decent... not sure if it's the second best though.

Not many people would argue with that. However the rest of Virginia >>>> rest of North Carolina.

I spent some time in Virginia and the saying around there from out of staters was: What do you call a good looking girl in Virginia? A tourist!

Of course compared to Texas, there is no contest.

The area is very beautiful and I did enjoy my time there. I spent the course of three summers in northern VA but travels around and got to see much of the state. More expensive than in Texas but that was the worst part so that isn't bad at all.

The Triangle and Charlotte are at the top of just about every "best" list out there and are the only two major housing markets not to see price erosion in 2007. Just saying.

Surfisle,

Have you ever been off of the interstate in SC? I can say the same thing about Texas by driving 1-20 and I-10.

I'm biased, but the Greenville/Anderson/Clemson area is one of the top retirement areas in the country right now based on lakes, recreation, etc. Greenville is an up and coming city as well.

Can't say much about Charlotte, but for its size, the Triangle area is one of the most godawful boring places I have lived/been too.

Carolina is nothing more than a poor man's Virginia.

i've been all over that state. actually going back to columbia in a couple of weeks. florence has some nice places and greenville was pretty cool. can't say the same for the other places i've been to other than the fact it's fun playing in traffic in myrtle
