I am a recent grad and I just got a job in Nashville. The job requires work in the medical center. I've never been to Nashville and I was wondering what parts of town I should look and at and which to avoid. My rent range is pretty generous and I am looking to move to an area with a lot of other young professionals that is safe. Which areas should I look at?

I don't know, but I have a good high school friend, though a sip, who has lived in Nashville for 10-15 years. Email me at my screen name at wcc.net and I will give you his info.

I bet he could help.

Nashville is a cool city with a great downtown area. Honestly, get a realtor to help; makes life much easier.

Sorry to take so long to respond to this -- not been on-line much lately...

You say THE medical center? Which one?

I currently live southeast of Nashville on the LaVergne/Smyrna line. It's the fastest growing area, and its a young demographic. I, personally, love it here and I've got StoneCrest Medical Center right down the street (plus housing costs are still really reasonable down here). It's a simple 20 - 30 minute drive downtown, depending on traffic.

I used to live in Hermitage (east of Nashville down I-40, also a 20 - 30 minute drive downtown) and had Summit Medical Center down the street. I liked it there when I moved there, but now you'd not pay me to live out there as crime rates seem to be rising there. I still do a lot of business over there since I got rather established there with various vendors, but as for living there? Not hardly. I do like neighbor Mount Juliet, though, which is in Wilson county and thus has lower property taxes as its getting away from your colleges in Davidson county. Lebanon isn't bad if you want a smaller town feeling, though a bit out of the way if you want to stay in towards Nashville.

Definitely 100% avoid Antioch, East Nashville, and Madison. It's where most of the crime is. I repeat, avoid these areas.

Your "nicest" part of town is going to be Franklin, Cool Springs, and Brentwood to the southwest. It's where the people with more money live. There's a lot of old money down there. It's where many of the stars can be found as well as where most of your bigger professionals live. (As well as where a majority of our A&M Club members live.) Chances are, from what you've said, that's the area you'll want to look most heavily.

Hendersonville to the north is an older area of town, to me, and its pretty middle of the road. I love the neighborhoods up there, though.

I'd also, believe it or not, recommend looking around downtown. There's a lot of new condos going in that look to be very upscale. Downtown would keep you close to Vanderbilt and Baptist hospitals. It would keep you at the heart of all the action and, hey, if you go out on Saturday night you don't have far to go to get home! But, seriously, its something to look into if you're looking for that sort of thing.

Let me know if you're looking for a Realtor. I have a good friend who is in realty that I'd love to recommend to you. She's a sweetheart and also a transplanted Texan. She'd take care of you, I am sure, or if she can't find what you're looking for... will point you in the right direction towards someone who can.

wow- I vote Nise03 to the Nashville Chamber Of Commerce advertising board of directors- very nice Nise

Nise is absolutley correct about everything. Avoid south Nashville/Antioch. LaVergne has lots of Industry so the town is growing great and Smyrna is home to the Nissan plant. I beleive they make the Nissan Titan there. Alot of Nashville workers also live here in Murfreesboro. You can go to www.murfreesborotn.gov to find out more about this city.

Sorry for the late reply- i dont come to this board very often. I am usually on mybcs.
