I was plesantly suprised when my Nevada realitives took me to a mexican resturant in Winnemuca NV. The Enchiladas were a helluva lot better than the ones I found in CA

everytime i eat mexican here in the CO mountains, my stomach hurts for 3 days.

i found a burrito place that is decent though. it claims to offer HUGE burritos which are substantially smaller than a regular at freebirds or mission.

We went to a place in Leadville that was flat out awful....The "mexican food" you can get at baseball games (loaded nachos) was about on par.

What do you think of Qdoba and Illegal Petes? They are no Freebirds, but still decent enough I thought.

One thing that I noticed about people from other states (we had interns from many places) is that they eat Chinese food the way we Texans eat Tex-Mex....as in, it's not a big deal to get it more than once a week...and its kind of the default thing to get if you don't want a burger or steak. Is this a fair assumption?

Hmm...Qdoba and Illegal Pete's are alright...way better than Chipotle but of course not as good as free birds.

One thing about the Chinese food...holy crap there's a lot of Chinese food places here. And they're all named Panda something....Panda's somewhere in the name no matter what.

i'm in mid-michigan...they give you chopped up tomatoes when you ask for salsa and cheese whiz when you ask for queso.

El Jardin in Commerce City, CO has really good cheese enchiladas.

THe key is to get green chili sauce on them, NOT their enchilada sauce which is horrible.

You Texans don't even know what Mexican food is!
It is NOT just food made by Mexicans! I've been around alot and I was raised on the Border. The best Mexican lunch can be had at Los Camperos in Brewster Washington and the best dinner can be had at either of the La Parilla Suiza in Tucson, Arizona. For breakfast, El Chef in Douglas, Arizona is best.
These recommendations assume you want to stay in good 'ol USA these days.

wow, that's funny. i grew up on the border too, and i've had mexican food in probably 15 states. the mexican food in extreme south texas (the valley) is really hard to beat. there may be a place or two in some metro areas that come close, but as a whole it is hard to top.

I love New Mexico's version of Mexican food.

We have found that the only solution for spending a decade outside the state is to make our own.

We make some awesome breakfast tacos, I can make homemade tortillas when we run out of the prerolled/just throw on the stove to cook type that we bring back with us, a great queso recipe, etc

Moved to NC in 1993. I've been looking for breakfast tacos ever since. What passes for TexMex here is an absolute joke.

We made the trek to B/CS for the CO game and introduced our 10 year old to fresh tortillas and breakfast tacos....loved them. He spent 10 minutes watching tortillas being made.

Miss the food in Texas, but not the weather.
