I've already exchanged emails on this with Proud but I'll throw my $.02 in as well. I moved to Denver five years ago after having never lived anywhere but in Texas. I missed many aspect of Texas at first but that feeling slowly started to fade. What I found though was I really liked being in Denver. My experiences we different, the culture was different, the weather was MUCH different and the change was refreshing.

I still miss the food and my friends and family in Texas but I have found that you can make great friends anywhere if you look hard enough and you can eat pretty decent food (the mexican and beef brisket do lack up here).

What I really like about Denver is the ability to do SO MANY THINGS. I ski about 50 days a year. I probably play 75 rounds of golf. I hike mountains, go camping in the hills, fish, hunt and river raft. I like to tell my friends that their vacation is my life

I think that if you decide to move to a city outside of Texas for the right reasons (not just because work wants you to be there) and take advantage of what that area has to offer, you won't be disappointed.

Well put, SB. i will be in Denver from October 13-18. I am thinking about bringing the sticks and maybe playing a round or two. Let me know if you think you will be in town that week.

Very nice. I will be happy for 30 ski days and 50 rounds my first year. We are thinking about moving in December now, so that we can get almost a full ski season. Do you know when I would have to buy the $449 pass by?

I'll be around, Proud. October can be hit or miss with golf. It could be 70 and sunny or 35 and about to snow.

The $449 pass is still available but must be purchased in person, I think. It should still be around when you come for your visit.

Been out of Texas for 10 years and have not looked back. When I moved I planned on returning in 2 yrs, but that abviously changed. This world is too big and life is too short to be committed to staying permanently in one place.

Sooner Born,

I am undecided whether I'm going to bring my clubs. I will probably do it, but I am hesitant to pay the $25 fee to American (for checking a 2nd bag) unless I am pretty sure I will have time to play. Weather looks good.

I am still finalizing my schedule, but I think Friday afternoon and probably Wednesday afternoon look the best for me. You think you can play then?

Either one works for me. I've still got your email...look for my cell number there.

Awful. Although a year and a half later, I am recovering. It probably doesn't help that I am in IL and Chicago had an AWFUL winter last year. I am starting to enjoy it more, though.

This is an interesting thread to me because I have had several chances to move out of Texas but have not ever pulled the trigger. I've lived in College Station, Temple, Dallas, and now Houston. I love the conveniences of Texas which I have not found in other states when I visit my friends. But sometimes the thrill of trying something new excites me. Maybe one of these days I'll pull the trigger and move...

My wife and I moved to Denver this past May. It has been good and bad. The good is obvious - Denver is a great place. A vibrant downtown with the mountains 30 miles away.

The bad is that we left all of our friends in Texas and never realized how much we took for granted having 30 people you can call any time you want to hang out.

We didn't do nearly as much this summer as we'd hoped as we spent most of our free time getting our house fixed up. We've promised ourselves that we're buying camping and outdoor gear and hitting the mountains much more often next year.

I'm looking forward to skiing, but my wife can't ski. That will be a challenge this winter.

The move overall has been the most difficult on my wife as several months after moving I took an assignment with my company that sends me to Indiana almost every week. That is really rough and we're hoping it will end sooner rather than later.

You ever hang out with the A&M group for game watching parties or happy hours? Seems like a fun group of people.

My wife and I are in the same boat. We can't wait to move, but it will be a bit of an adjustment not having our old friends and family around. I have a couple old friend in Denver, as well as some new ones.... so I'm not worried. I foresee myself making plenty of new friends, skiing and golfing a lot, and drinking plenty of local beer in some sweet bars. And we should have friends or family visiting us about 15-20 times a year.

I was referring to being able to have your own car and drive places, not having to deal with snow in the winter, etc. It sucks living in Boston or NYC and only being able to take home what you can carry from the grocery store. Things like that.
