I've already exchanged emails on this with Proud but I'll throw my $.02 in as well. I moved to Denver five years ago after having never lived anywhere but in Texas. I missed many aspect of Texas at first but that feeling slowly started to fade. What I found though was I really liked being in Denver. My experiences we different, the culture was different, the weather was MUCH different and the change was refreshing.
I still miss the food and my friends and family in Texas but I have found that you can make great friends anywhere if you look hard enough and you can eat pretty decent food (the mexican and beef brisket do lack up here).
What I really like about Denver is the ability to do SO MANY THINGS. I ski about 50 days a year. I probably play 75 rounds of golf. I hike mountains, go camping in the hills, fish, hunt and river raft. I like to tell my friends that their vacation is my life
I think that if you decide to move to a city outside of Texas for the right reasons (not just because work wants you to be there) and take advantage of what that area has to offer, you won't be disappointed.
