ooking at possibly purchasing a small house or condo in new york city just to use as a vacation place, as it's fun to go to the city. Does anyone know how much the property taxes are up there? I just want to make sure they are not all that high. I'm probably not looking at manhattan but maybe some affordable neighborhood but still close in the city.

Hey...not really having to do with OP, but I have two tickets to Celine Dion in Nassau Coliseum on 9/18/08 (Section 339, Row S, Seats 2&3...cost me $65 each--including extra fees). If anybody's interested, e-mail me & I can overnight them (UPS/USPS/etc), although be aware I'm in College Station so I may need to mail tomorrow to arrive in time for the concert.

Is this a troll? Unless you've been rolling in 6 figures for quite some time, you are going to be SORELY disappointed.

A good buddy of mine just bought a nice 1650 sqft townhouse in Hoboken, NJ (directly across from mid-town...still takes 30-40 minutes to get there) at a sweetheart price of $750k.

I want to say property tax rates are not as high as many other places but anything within an hour commute of the city will cost quite a bit. A studio apartment(300-500sf) in the city will cost you about 400k or more. Craiglist is pretty helpful for pricing in NY.
