Promotion is moving me from Houston to West Monroe shortly... Anyone have any experiences there?

Shreveport has an aggie club you can look into. I live down in SE Louisiana now so wish I could help more!

West Monrow is very redneck. There's the black side of town and the white side of town. They did build a Hooters there several years back which added a little value.

It stinks b/c of the paper mill.

The Waterfront restaurant is pretty good. The mohawk is good for raw oysters.

Yea, not sure I'm going to get used to the smell. It's not going to be a permanent move, so hopefully I can stand it for 3-4 years or so.

It's gotta be dirt cheap to live there though.

My mom lives in Monroe, as does my older brother and his family. I'm there a couple times a year.

Have you found a house yet? If not, Frenchman's Bend north of Monroe is a nice area. If you have kids, I think you might do well to get into the parish school district instead of the city districts (unless you have a boy playing football, then you might want to get him to West Monroe High; my brother teaches and coaches at Ouachita Christian School, which is also a great school).

Thanks ABatt. I'm most likely living in an apartment until my house sells down in Houston. No kids yet but that may not be too far off, so thanks for the heads up.

Pigeon, not as cheap as you might think. I actually think housing is very similar to Houston and with sales and state income taxes more expensive.

I agree with previous info. I lived in Monroe for 4 years and now travel from Shreveport to Monroe almost weekly. If you're coming to the Independence Bowl on the 28th, join us in the North LA Club tailgate area. We can share additional info.

I think I might actually like Monroe better than West Monroe with some of their new developments. Definitely not here for the long term, but won't be as bad as I once thought.
