I live in Houston now, but I am being asked by my company to move up to our corporate office in Indy. If you are familiar with this area what are your general opinions on Indy?

I have two kids under the age of 3 and a wife that stays at home with them (needless to say she isn't a real fan of the idea).

What are some of the nicer suburbs to raise a family in (that I can get a nice 4/2/2 house for around 200K)?

I know the winters are brutal but how is the rest of the year?

If anyone has made the drive from Houston to Indy, how long is it (Mapquest says 16 hours)?

I just relocated (within the last week) to West Lafayette which is about 55 miles north of Indy.

Our drive took about 15 hours. We went up 59 from Houston to Texarkana and then 55 all the way to Memphis. We detoured there and went to Nashville to see some friends and came up the rest of the way on 65 through Louisville to Indy.

The worst part of the drive was actually getting out of Houston. We hit about a 30 minute delay in Memphis but the rest of the drive was pretty smooth.

As far as weather goes, people have told me to expect a true four seasons. I grew up in Ohio so I think that will be pretty true. It is in the high 60s here today but is supposed to be back in the 40s and 50s next week.

Just from what I have seen in the few days I have been here, cost of living is pretty comparable to what I saw in Houston and College Station. You should be able to find some decent housing in your price range in the Indy burbs.
