I'm taking the wife up to NYC for Labor Day, trying to catch the Yankees on Sunday afternoon. What strategy do you recommend for picking up a pair of tickets? Looks like waiting until a couple days before and going with Craigslist might be the best thing to do...?

Don't go to stubhub. I got mine in 2008 for a game on Sat, Sept 13. Last year at Yankee Stadium. Had the weekend planned then Ike happened. We had to cancel, evacuate and came back to a totalled house. Was able to refund the plane tickets and hotel rooms but got screwed on the game tickets. Now, I have a pair of $500 souveniers from the last year for the house that Ruth built.

That said, I didn't complain about not getting a refund. Besides having bigger things to worry about, I knew the policies - that's the way it goes sometimes. In reality, stubhub was really easy to deal with and I'd probably use them again.

*edit - I forgot how to spell....

That sucks, man. I generally stay away from Stub Hub because they overcharge you and everything.

I have had good luck just going up to the stadium and buying from people on the street

Phil - thanks for responding. This is the route I am thinking about taking. Have you had any luck finding better seats for less than face value?

No, you are not going to find them for less than face value. I went to game Tuesday night and felt very lucky to get three for only face value. Most of the time you can get them for face value though. We sat in section 113 which is first level behind first base a ways and paid $125 each (face value)
