I'm moving across the country for work. They are going to pay to have my car shipped so I don't have to drive, but the car must be empty.

The company will pay to have the rest of my stuff sent to me, I just don't know the best way to do it. Should I just go with UPS?

It's only personal belongings - mostly clothes, shoes, an xbox....that's about it. No furniture or anything big.

Oh and my pistol. Don't really know what to do with that.

When a friend was moving the same kind of stuff back to the States from Germany, she used DHL.

I just moved from Houston to Raleigh, and while my company offered to pay and have my car shipped, I took the opportunity to drive and see a little bit of the South on the way. If it's not a time crunch, and your vehicle can handle it, that's what I would suggest. There's nothing like a road trip.

As far as the moving company, consult HR and see if it's stipulated in your relocation package. My company has a contract with national movers depending on where you move.

The hand gun, it's a touchy subject. My movers wouldn't take my shotguns, I wouldn't trust them with it anyway. And I don't think it's something you can just FedEx to yourself, though I could be wrong. I took them apart, locked their cases and stowed them under all my stuff in the far back and didn't speed.

Good luck on your move.

Yeahhhh...I don't think I'll be driving.

My drive would be about 30 hours (if the weather is perfect) and I don't have the time to do it.

I guess I'll just take what I can on the plane and ship the rest.

Thanks for the suggestions.

you can take a pistol on the plane - just has to be in a locked hard case in your checked luggage, unloaded. Just tell the lady when you check your bag that you are checking a firearm. Not sure about ammo...

That's awesome, thanks!

I had no idea. I guess I just assumed it wasn't allowed.
