Howdy! It is very likely I'll be taking a position at the University of Missouri. I am curious to know if any fellow Ags live in Columbia and what they think of the area.

I'm not there anymore, but I went to Mizzou for grad school. Columbia is a great town with nice people. If you are a fan of the arts, the downtown area provides a good share of cultural offerings for the size of the town. The bar and restaurant scene is pretty good. Campus is beautiful. Lots of great outdoors activities within 10 miles. Easy drive to St Louis and Kansas City.

Also, "money flows South" in Columbia. If you are looking for a place to live, the nicer neighborhoods are on the southern half of town.

Thanks for the info, FA07. It seems like you really enjoyed it there. It makes us feel a lot better about the idea.

We will moving from the DC area so we're worried about the culture shock. We're both Aggies and spent a considerable amount of time in B/CS and are trying to translate everything to what we know...ie Stadium is 2818, Broadway is University, etc. We are looking at a house just off Fairview and Broadway, behind the Hy-Vee.

I'm assuming you were there in your early 20s? I'm in my 30s and my wife in her late 20s with no kids. Would you live there again in our age range or do you think it would be like College Station, a place with not much catering to that age?
