Its official... I'm moving to Denver and couldn't be more excited! In need of suggestions on where to live and how to get connected in the city. I'm 24, single, and love to stay active. I've heard of a few areas like LoDo and Washington Park. I don't want to pay more than $1100 for rent though. Any thoughts and suggestions are very much appreciated.

Downtown will be tough on rent. There is a lot of low income housing so you might make to much to get the lower rent.

Check in the DTC. That is where we lived back in 06.

Have fun!

I just moved to Thorton, Westminster area of North Denver. Its suburb ish. Got everything you need on that part of town. Here Lodo is a good area to live in. I pay about $800 for rent. $1000 should get you decent place out that way.

Congrats- I couldn't imagine living anywhere but Denver. It's especially great for a young person that likes to get out and have fun.

$1100 should get you a place just about anywhere. I'd make a trip before you move and check out some of the following neighborhoods close to downtown: Cap Hill, Cheesman Park, Cherry Creek, Congress Park, City Park, Wash Park, and LoDo.

Thanks for the help, Proud Aggie. I'm planning to make a trip in July to find an apartment. I'll definitely check out some of those areas.

Love to see more and more good Ags moving to Denver. One neighborhood I have not seen mentioned is the Highlands. It's an up and coming neighborhood just to the northwest of downtown. $1100 might not be feasible in the area though since it's mostly rental homes instead of apartments.

Highlands is popular, but I think it is overpriced (and not that nice in general). It might be worth the OP's time to check out, but I personally don't like the area.

Highlands is pretty hipster and trendy, but I have come to like it. It is definitely a niche neighborhood.

I live in LoHi and it's fantastic! Walking distance to downtown by way of bridge and 20 min walk to rockies game, nuggets, and broncos. New restaurants and bars in the neighborhood. $1200 in rent where we are with a garage space. 17th and central. I wouldn't live anywhere but here you will want to be as centrally located as a new graduate. Personally, I wouldnt recommend DTC, or surrounding areas of Denver. Move to Denver. Not Westminster, thorton, castle rock, wheat ridge, etc.

Have you been to other neighborhoods close to downtown?

Out of curiosity, what kind of crowd goes out in the Highlands? I've only been to restaurants there, and it has been a while. Any restaurant or bar suggestions?

It seems to be a mix of successful 30 somethings with small families, people in their 20's who are burned out of downtown, and hipsters.

Highlands has some great food spots such as Bang!, Duo, Sushi Hai, Z Cuisine, El Camino, Highland Tap and Burger, Coral Room for breakfast/brunch, and Tocabe is a great place for a quick meal.

Three dogs tavern and Mead Street Station are pretty good bars as well.

That's off the top of my head.

Congratulations man! I'm moving out there in a week for my internship and will be living in downtown! PM me if you want to meet up for a beer or something. Sounds like I'm a year younger than you, go hit up the bars.

So in Lower Highlands which is from central to Zuni to Speer and 38th has Lolas, Vita, Linger, root down, forest room 5, highland tavern, lohi steak bar, brothers bar, potos pizza, Williams and graham speak easy, park burger, duo, Denver beer co, zio's alley bar, colt and gray, sushi sasa, zengo, Amatos Ale house, masterpiece deli, z cuisine, lodo is about a mile walk across a pedestrian/bike bridges, union station light rail .6 miles, cherry creek and platte river bike/running trails less than1/2 mile away. If you're 24 years old or 33 like myself, enjoy the going out, experiencing everything DENVER has to offer which can include walking access to all the sports teams, restaurants, bars, and women in Denver not Arvada, DTC, Highlands, etc. you should live in downtown or LoHI. Check out 'prospect on central', another new building is at Zuni and 30th I believe (not opened yet). Crowd at all listed above can vary from new college grads to mid thirties aged people; also will be hippsters, dorks, and some unattractive people. Welcome to Denver!

Been there a couple of times in the past year for year and is officially my favorite city. Would love to move there sometime in the future. God I love that city.
