I will be moving out to Tucson in the next few months and am wondering what type of advice anyone there might have in terms of where to look for a rental and what areas to avoid.

We winter about 30 miles south of Tucson so don't know the individual neighborhoods specifically. Generally north Tucson would be the best place to live if it is affordable for you. Stay away from South Tucson definitely and generally west Tucson. East Tucson is rather hit and miss. We have a friend in a very nice little neighborhood there, though. Call Reid Griffin, a realtor at Pueblo Equity at(520) 571-1166. He grew up in Tucson and we know him and his wife through the Desert Bluegrass Association. He is a great guy. Tell him the mando and fiddler folks from Wyoming sent you to him.

Have you moved yet? I apologize for not posting back on this thread. I totally forgot about it.

No problem. I moved out here a week or so ago. I ended up getting an apt for now (the past few months have been nuts) on the north side. I figure that will give me time to get to know some of the areas. Any advice you may have would still be appreciated though.

Where on the north side do you live? What kind of things do you like to do? I loved living there for several years but I really liked the outdoors a lot. This is a great time to be in Tucson before the summer months come.

I do a lot of hiking and random back packing. It has been a while since I have really done much higher elevation stuff so I'm looking forward to doing that again. I am on orange grove about two miles or so west of oracle.

Tucson is a great town with lots to offer. And you are there in a good time of year.

1. Sabino Canyon- great place to hike and explore. Seven Falls is an easy but very scenic hike to check out if you already haven't. I often liked to hike phonline as well as Blackett's Ridge. Blackett's was a short but steep climb that offers you a great view of the city.

2. Desert Museum- fun place to see desert life in a contained area.

3. Mt. Lemmon- as the weather gets warmer this is a great option for hiking. There are so many trails to explore and the drive is amazing up there. I liked hiking butterfly and box camp. You can pick up a waterproof map at Summit Hut and ask around about trails.

Food
1. Mexican- Tucson is very different than Tex-Mex. Sonoran style food is really flavorful and full of options. I really like Rosas, El Charro (downtown), Mi Poca Cosa (high end mexican food), st. mary's (amazing tortillas), La Fresita (west side)

2. Sushi- Ginza- very good sushi (near Sabino Canyon), Ra- sushi is ok, but they have good specials there. Shogun (close to you). Not sushi good Bluefin Bistro is really good and close to you.

3. American- Jax's kitchen- good quality food close to you. The Abbey- great space with good food from the same people as Jax's kitchen. Hacienda del Sol- expensive but they have a great brunch a second restaurant that is cheaper but still very good food. Its at a boutique hotel that offers great views of the city. Sauce, a good local restaurant with fresh ingredients.

4. Italian- Vivace- very nice restaurant with really good food. Special occasion kind of place. Caruso's- been there a long time with really good food. Well priced. Roma's Imports- great local italian deli.

Beer- Barrio Brewery- good local brewery, Dragoon, Borderlands. I don't care for much for Nimbus.

Let me know if you need any other ideas or options. I have plenty of them.
