I'm going to be re-locating to Boston from Dallas around the end of April/beginning of May time frame. When I ask people where to live, I definitely get a mixed bag. (Complete opposite compared to Dallas)

With that being said - does anyone have any good insight into the neighborhoods, etc. I'm initially looking into Southie because I've talked with a lot of young professionals that live there...but I hear Dorchester can be cheaper - and nice if you find the right spot.

Thanks in advance for any of the help!

I would not live in southie unless you have an off street parking spot or do not have a car. Street parking there is a nightmare. The only part of Dorchester I would live in is a section called lower mills. I would stay away from fields corner and Savin hill. A lot of where you live depends on if you are bringing a car or not.

Yes I'm bringing my car - are there other spots you recommend?

I'm in consulting so I could literally be working anywhere. T access is great - but also may not be a necessity.

Just dropping by to say that I'll be moving to Boston in June. Will likely live in Fenway or Back Bay. Good to see another Ag will be moving up there too!

Hey ItalianStallion88, welcome to the area. I lived in Bay Village my first year here, and I really liked it. It was conveniently located to the Back Bay, Chinatown, and the Financial District. As for neighborhoods, the Back Bay and Beacon Hill are ridiculously pricey (approx. $3000/mo for a one-bed with street parking); Bay Village is approx. $1800/mo for a one-bed (same for southie and the south end nowadays); Charlestown and Cambridge are probably a little cheaper and still close (approx. $1400-1800/mo); and then the college ghetto which is Allston/Brighton... prices will vary here, but that's the cheapest area in town. If you require a car for work, you might find it easier to live outside of the city (e.g., Braintree, Malden, Medford, Jamaica Plain) since you can find parking easily and commute on the T ($75/mo for a monthly pass). Personally, I lived in the city without a car for a year, and with a car for a year. Doesn't matter where you park in this city... your car will get dinged, dented, scratched, the homeless will barf on or near it, college kids will pee on or near it, and you will get ticketed endlessly while you figure out the street cleaning and trash schedules. Or, for $300+/mo you can rent a garage space. Life was easier in the city without a car. In summary, if you can swing the Back Bay or Beacon Hill, those are the most coveted spots. If not, I'd check out Bay Village, Charlestown, Cambridge, then Allston/Brighton, in that order. Feel free to PM me if you have other questions! Again, welcome!

I found a place in Southie with a couple Boston College grads that work in Finance. Looking forward to learning the city!
