It might be better if there were a definitive use of the tariff funds raised, but they're going directly into the black hole of our government's general receipts. If the plan was to segregate and use the funds to pay down the national debt, retrain the workforce, button-up our borders, build infrastructure, clean up the air, or something meaningful (you fill in the blank), it might make a little more sense. But no, it will be commingled and spent instantly on our typical welfare (corporate or personal) approach which picks political winners and losers in a way that only government can do - extremely inefficiently.
Fortunately, the economy is resilient, and I think this will sort out over time, and we'll be not much worse off than if we never started this ill-conceived tariff scheme in the first place. That's what keeps me mostly invested in the market.
