I did my own taxes for '21 and filled online. I ended up getting a refund when I submitted and then a few weeks later the refund hit my bank....but it was for less than what I filled for. Soon after I got a letter from the IRS saying an error was found on my return and that the refund was for a lesser amount.
From the best I can tell it comes down to the 'Recovery Rebate Credit' and there being a discrepancy. The IRS letter gives a phone number to call and a deadline of July 8 to contact them to dispute/resolve the error.
I've called the IRS robo-tree number everyday for the past 2-3wks and each time the call automatically ends due to 'unusually high call volume' .....shocker right?? Has anyone had luck actually contacting the IRS about something like this or is there a different route I should be taking??
