If you don't know who Ed Thorp is, you should give this a listen. He's had a very interesting life and career in math/gambling/finance.

Developed card counting for blackjack.
Beat roulette (using a computer).
Dealt with Warren Buffett pre-Berkshire days.
Identified the Madoff fraud decades before it became apparent.
Ran a very successful hedge fund.
Was investor #1 in Citadel.

Makes a good case for buy and hold and not trying to time the market which is pretty timely advice right now.

Actually they had a wearable computer that they could somehow input the position if the wheel when the ball was released or something like that and it would tell them which 8 numbers to bet on. And it yielded a huge advantage. It couldn't tell them exactly which number.

Makes sense. Not a big roulette guy, but I've seen two people get warned for doing this. At the time, I didn't know what was happening

+1 for anything Ed Thorp. On top of his tremendous success, he seems like a "do the right thing" kind of guy.

Really important point he talked about; not only investing your capital but also investing in your health….there is a time and commitment component to both.
