I'm no help but there's a poster on Aggie Yell who owns a Deli and sells coffee thru here:

Price hasn't increased in my 4 years of buying thru him and it's just about the best coffee anywhere. I stick to the single origin and Pecan.

Hawaii's production is so small and expensive that it doesn't matter for the overall cost. It's a specialty product. Brazil is what matters for the global commodity price, with Vietnam being a distant second.

Growing coffee has everything to do with geography. It primarily grows within a certain latitude range that sandwiches the equator, and is highly dependent upon elevation and rainfall.. All of the major coffee players have this characteristic in common (Brazil, Vietnam, Colombia, Indonesia, Ethiopia, Nicaragua, etc), and it's also why coffees from these regions, particularly continental differences, taste so differently.

I think as long as caffeine remains the most consumed "drug" out there, these coffee growers will do everything in there power to keep pumping it out.
