Howdy,

Curious what y'all recommend primarily for budgeting, paying bills, tracking spending etc; tracking investments/retirement goals would be secondary...

I'm used to Quicken, but open to better options; for a little under $5/mo I can pay bills and link all of my accounts and credit cards etc....

Any other tools I should look at?

TIA!

I have never found something that does what I want it to do better than Excel for budgeting and financial planning.

Tiller. It's a Google Sheets / MS Excel based software.

We use Copilot. It's not free but we've gotten a pretty good value from it. Displays everything in a very user friendly/visually appealing format. It's also pretty good at autocategorizing items and is pretty easy to manually change or categorize if needed. Also easy to set it up with budgets, what you want to allocate where, what budgets you want to carry over, etc.

ETA: we also have our Fidelity, 401K, company stocks, HSA, etc. all linked so it also gives us a good/easy retirement summary.

Has had some issues lately linking with AMEX. It happened when AMEX combined their personal savings and credit card accounts to one log in, so think it's related to that. But otherwise it's been good.

I use excel.
One sheet tracks assets with each asset as a row, and each column as a point in time. Brokerage accounts, bank accounts, 401k, etc are all a separate row. Been doing that since 2010, so it has a nice history there.

Then a separate sheet to track my savings for the year.
Keeps a running track of 401k, HSA contributions as well as changes in the bank accounts and additional transfers to my brokerage account. Helps keep me on track throughout the year.

All credit card statements are received via hard copy, holes punched, and they go into a 3 ring binder for review as needed.

It's not super high tech, but it works for me.

I'm all in on tiller after using YNAB for years. Have been added some things to manage pending transactions and auto update my budget when I overrun something. Meets my needs perfectly.

Great tool. And a steady influx of new modules. I don't use all of them but it's fun to try them out and see if they make sense for me.
