Quantum Entanglement
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Over 30 years ago I was told that using an American Express card will not help your credit scores because they don't report to the credit bureaus. That seems strange. Does anyone know if that is true now?

I just opened up a Macy's American Express card and hope that this will improve my credit rating, which is pretty good already.

Literally every AMEX I've ever had is on my credit reports just like Visa or MC

I think it depends on the card. AMEX gold and Platinum are charge cards not credit cards.

interesting. They aren't extending you a line of credit. They do use existing credit to set the spending limit.

They technically are, it's just not set. You can carry a balance with them. Because it's not set, the way they report in regards to credit utilization may not be 100% considered like it is with normal credit cards.

IIRC AMEX used to be kinda hard to get. Having one actually enhanced your credit report back in the day. Then AMEX discovered they could make more money extending eligibility for the cards to anyone with a decent credit score, and there's little difference these days.

I think the issue is that I have no set credit limit on my AMEX Platinum, so it doesn't show up on my credit score whenever it shows how much credit I have available to me. I can see every other of my card's credit limit on my credit score but not my AMEX.

Thats part of the problem, the AMEX Platinum doesn't have a defined credit limit. Im sure other AMEX's are the same.
