Howdy, I have an older relative that needs to lease mineral rights on a quarter section in Ector county.

Anybody able to assist?

Land has never been drilled and has been leased before

Are people calling to lease them? Or are you just wanting to see why nobody has ever called?

I'm no expert but I do have access to some info, so I spent a few mins looking at some data.

There's zero active rigs in the whole county. Literally every county around Ector has activity… some have lots of activity. Ector has none. That's a bad sign.

Company I work for has assets in nearby adjacent counties but hasn't bothered to look for anything there. I'm not a geologist, but based on activity, there seems to be a lack of good rock for horizontal drilling.

Not trying to be a wet blanket here, but the prospects aren't good… especially if they weren't approached last year when prices shot up. Price environment is getting worse now…

I know from my own family how hard this is, but if they're too proud to sell their land (which is what happened to us), you probably need to round up some family to support them, knowing that someday relatively soon you'll get that money back when the land passes on (and gets sold).

There are 162 active permits in Ector county for new drills. Happy to send you a map if you think it would help.

Make sure they are relatively recent permits, last 6-12 months. Don't want to give false hope.

The majority of Ector county is in the CBP. Up dip of both the Delaware and Midland basins. Some of the Easter side of the county has midland basin acreage.

There's plenty of recent permit activity. Continental and Diamondback are starting to develop the Barnett section in Ector, along with a few smaller shops. Whether the quarter section in question is perspective depends on where it is.

There are 16 active permits for new drills in the past 3 months and over 100 in the past year. I don't focus on this area, but it's certainly not a non-prospective area just because there aren't any rigs there right now.

To me, it's worth the time to look at for getting re-leased.

What's your email? I'm a landman and can help look into it.

if you haven't gotten the info you were looking for let me know. We just leased out our acreage to two (2) separate groups in northern Ector County.
