I can't say I've seen or experienced cases where corporate offices were closed like this prior to layoff decisions being communicated at the staff level. I recall some of the major O&G layoffs in 2015 being done offsite, but not being preceded with an office closure to plan the layoffs. Leads me to believe the cuts will be deep and disruptive, so there was a need to tightly control the rumor mill.
