Does he generally have fabric, or do you need to supply your own fabric?

Thanks!

He takes measurements and you pick the fabric you want out of this sample books. He takes everything back to Asia and you'll get the order in the mail.

Anyone priced out bespoke suits and jackets in Houston recently? I've been needing a new suit for a while and might go with Bobby based on the positive feedback he receives here. Just wanted to gutcheck that his prices are still a deal for what you get.

I would be more interested in how much he's charging for 100% wool at this point.

He was pushing a lot of synthetic blend last time around. I get wanting to offer a range of materials, but he should be more transparent about that kind of thing.

You can see the fabric samples and pick them yourself. The ones I pick are 100% Italian wool. A custom suit with 100% wool are upwards of $1000 elsewhere so to me, Bobby's stuff is a steal. The only way I see you can get a better deal is going directly to Thailand and getting in with one of the factories. Of all the suits and coats I've bought from Bobby, I've yet to have anyone ask me what it's made of. As a matter of fact, I was stopped at a gas station last week and asked where I got my shirt (one they Bobby made for me). I have the man Bobby's email and he's set up to meet him when he comes. I get lots of compliments on his clothes. I'm no model but getting clothes made for you (I got short legs and a long torso) is a big deal. For those of you worries about fit, I referred a friend who bought about $4k worth of stuff. He was ducking his stomach in when being measure, Bobby told him to relax. He didn't and his clothes were snug around his stomach. Bobby redid his entire order at no cost. Nobody doesn't that in this business.

he does show you the samples, but he was always very vague about the composition.

I'm sure there are many wool experts that would immediately be able to differentiate the content of one swatch to the next, but I was surprised that $600+ suits from him were using synthetic fabrics,

I like Bobby a lot and don't think he's trying to be misleading, but that info was never revealed to me until I asked.

The sample board usually say what they are. If you look at the back of the swatch you might see that. He prices according to the fabric so he'll price you synthetic if you choose synthetic. I always pick based on how the fabric looks and feels but you can tell him, you only want 100% wool and he'll show you those. He also gets new fabrics every time.

again...the swatches did not show the composition. He had a book for "regulars", "Super 180's", etc.

From what I recall, when asked, he told me all the "regular" fabrics were synthetic blends and you didn't get full wool until $800+.

This may have changed recently, but reporting my experience.

You think you're getting a full custom wool suit, tailored all the way, for $1,000 or less here stateside?

neither here nor there. This was my initial comment.

Just want to make sure people don't think they're getting 100% wool on the lower end of that threshold.

I was admittedly very green about that sort of thing when I went to him 5 years ago or so, so thought I would point that out. The prices I threw out were from two years ago so am curious to know what they are now.

I think the bolded was what threw me off.

and that's fine. I admitted to being pretty naive about the process.

There may be other rubes out there like me, so I thought it would cool if he was a little more upfront about the composition of the suits. I told him the same.

Like to help out fellow Aggies you know!

I guess the issue I have with it is that there's a tone of feeling that like you're getting ripped off and that's not happening here. I've never had such nice clothes and always get compliments even from people who run in elite 'couture' type circles. I always get compliments on the gear Bobby makes. And I'm just a fat old dude. I'll even go as far as mentioning that Bobby was a bit hurt when someone from here was wanting RM shirts complete with the RM monogram…which are my initials. I had posted pics of my shirts come time ago. He asked why not BG?

I guess I'm in the minority but I just don't see his clothes as these high end fashion pieces I'm going to get compliments on.

Are they a great value for the price? Yes.

I never wear suits. But the two blazers I have from suit supply are definitely a trimmer cut and more modern designs then the ones I have from Bobby. The chinos I got from him have pockets so deep they were unwearable, I had to take them to a local shop to get altered. The jeans are just b**** and awkward, I wore them once. The shirts are nice and fit well, but he did them with some weird western style cut that I didn't ask for and don't really dig.

Edit to add: reread and that came off harsh but didn't really mean it to be. His stuff isn't bad. I just don't think it's head and shoulders above alternatives on the market.

I don't think I'd hesitate to get another blazer from him.

But I don't think I'd do chinos or shirts from him again. There are just so many options now that are more convenient and better materials.

Definitely won't order jeans from him again.

definitely tried to stress with my comments that I don't think it's intentional.

I do like the guy and don't think he's dishonest.

I agree about the jeans. But as a custom suit maker, his stuff is comparable to other custom makers. I order from him every time he comes to town. And will continue to do so.
