So I am your typical boring long term investor, but I do enjoy picking an occasional long shot and opening a small position in my taxable account. Anyone have a long shot/gamble they think will make it big?
Here are the two I have currently that fit that category.
HUMA-making replacement blood vessels. Currently in late phase trials with what appears to be a good chance of approval in at least one of the proposed uses. I have worked in healthcare for a long time and I think this has a possibility to make a real impact. Also interesting because they actually have the capability to rapidly produce them already. Went public via spac and dropped like a rock. I got in below $3 and it has been trending up.
Rocket lab- They have been successful in launching rockets which has produced some revenue. They are still fairly expensive per pound to launch with but I think that will slowly improve. What really seems to be working for them is actually building satellites. That portion of the business is doing well and has a significant backlog of orders. Bought at 3.92

ENZC - I've held for a while and it's been on a run the past two days. Consider it when it dips back down.

maybe PLTR has gained too much of a cult following to be considered a longshot, but not exactly safe/boring either and has become my largest individual position, bought from teens down to 6 and still nibbling

By long shot do you mean very high risk (speculative, risk of going to 0) with the potential for very high reward (10x+)?

I also put almost every biotech in the category but most of those just bleed for years raising more research capital and reverse splitting in perpetuity.

Vegas. Apparently some guy bet $200 on Argentina to win the World Cup, the Chiefs to win the Super Bowl, Connecticut to reach the final four, and the Warriors to win the NBA title. If the Warriors end up winning he gets $300,000. He also has offers to sell his but as is right now for $30,000.

When I think about it everyone probably has a slightly different definition of a long shot stock. For me it is high risk/high reward BUT in order for me to throw some money at it I do have do see what at least appears to be a possible path to success in the future. So I guess I would call a long shot a step above a pure gamble. I agree about biotech which is why I usually avoid them like the plague. That being said HUMA is up 30% this week.

I have ENZC solely because they are A&M based from what I recall. Total homer pick and I don't even remember what they do. AIDS vaccine?

My actual pick is PLUG. I've already made a lot of money on them over the years but they qualify using cslifer's definition which I agree with.

They are the industry leader in hydrogen fuel cell electrolyzers within the green energy space which is largely bunk, but I don't mind making money off of it.

Their current stock price hasn't been this low in 3 years.
