I'm more on the land side of things, but about 5 to 10 years ago, it seemed like everybody was itching to open their own landman brokerage company. Most them disappeared very quickly. The only ones with a little bit of success already had some contacts in place at an E&P that could funnel them a bit of work. Even a lot of those fizzled out since many were just relying on one guy to send some work. And, the only thing harder than finding some good land work is finding good landmen who can show up and competently work. While I'm not as familiar with OFS, I suspect it will be a similar challenge. It will be very, very difficult to procure work unless you already have the contacts. Finding sober, dependable labor could be equally challenging. Unfortunately, the oil show just passed, but that would have been a great event to attend and meet some people. NAPE in February could be good, though I have mixed feelings about it. I think most people do. But, if you've never been, its worth going. DUG is in May and that could be worth attending. Good luck.
