this might be a dumb question, but having read this thread it might not be.... have you already setup an HSA and maxxed it out? Remember, you can also invest your HSA funds and the gains are tax free...

The prodigy assumes the tax liability, you still control grandkids account till 18yo and eventually kid heir assumes assets upon your/wife's death, however with no-stepped up basis for securities. He's saying if you pull HSA funds (after you've reached 65) for anything other than medical expenses it is taxed just like a traditional 401k is.

Oh, ok. Yeah.

We save receipts of larger items now for that reason. I mentioned it in the other thread. But saved them from the birth of our first child 3 years ago and planning to save them for the birth of our second child this year.

Either way, I'm anticipating healthcare being a substantial chunk of my expenditures when I'm in retirement age.
