A friend is looking for a $10k investment. He just opened six months ago and is doing pretty well, but he's pretty conservative with his current cash position.

He offered a single digit equity stake, but I want to propose an option to purchase equity. I don't really want the headache of a small equity stake unless the growth or profit interest becomes worthwhile. Anyone done something similar?
