I guess I have to go the sleazy lawyer route.
Looks like some "sleazy lawyers" giving you free legal advice on this thread to help you out of a situation of your own creation.

Best of luck. I bet you'd be a wonderful, well paying, understanding client.
My own creation? Can you elaborate?
You stated you were not carrying coverage to protect you in this situation. Dirtbags and losers are all over the road that are uninsured. And, some that do have insurance will do hit and runs, allow exempted drivers to drive the car, let the insurance lapse, will ignore their insurance companies, etc.

Had you had coverage, your insurance would've paid you out and they'd be the ones dealing with the headache. Instead, you're now stuck having to contemplate holding your nose to hire a filthy, dirty lawyer to assist with your legal issue.

First, I didn't read it where he said all lawyers are sleazy, just that he'd have to hire a sleazy one for this case. I think you have overreacted here. Second, by blaming the victim, you don't really separate yourself as one of the good ones.

It's a sad reality that the good, law-abiding drivers need to pay more $ for extra coverage, dash cams, etc. because some element of our society simply refuses to obey the laws, all while the system can't be bothered with bringing justice.

This is why I have dash cams at all my vehicles. Paid off recently when my son got in a accident. Other party made up a story. I showed the video to my insurance people two minutes later and it was all taken care of.

I like FitcamX
Just got one Saturday off this recommendation. Easy to install and nearly out of sight behind the rearview mirror. Thanks!

questions about the dash cams.
do you all put on front dash only? or front and rear?
I would think to really be protected you would want front and rear b/c the front only gets so much.
I'm thinking of a case where someone hits from the side (i.e. changing lanes into you). They say you came into their lane while you say the opposite. Front cam would ideally adequately show if you were moving to the side but not sure how accurate that would be?

and if you have a rear dash cam, how do you power it?
