Long story but we have a family friend couple that passed away. They did not have any children so they had their niece as the primary executor and my dad as the secondary executor. The primary executor passed away a few years ago and my dad is struggling closing things out. I'm trying to help out but we don't have a complete copy of their trust or will. I've got a few random documents but I think there is some unclaimed stock hanging out there as well as some unclaimed dividends on the Texas unclaimed property site. I think there also may be some unpaid taxes. I've also got a couple of checks that are ready to be cashed but I'm hesitant to do so until I know that there are no unpaid taxes.

I know there are attorneys out there that can help track these things down in exchange for a percentage. The beneficiaries were a few different charities so I'm not overly concerned about losing a portion of the estate, I just want this closed out.

Anyone know any firms that can assist?

Sorry for the loss of your close friends. It would probably help to know where they resided for someone to give you a good recommendation.

The executor could set up an estate bank account for depositing the checks and holding cash until taxes and outstanding bills are finalized .

They were in Houston. And there were a couple of bank accounts that my dad actually closed so I am currently in possession of two checks with the proceeds from them.

You can try an After Loss Pro, they help with estate tasks like this. My neighbor is one, google Reluctant Executor.
