What books that you've read that have had an impact on the way you think about money and investing?

I'll offer my list with my personal rating and review but I'm always looking to expand my knowledge in this area so I'm hoping others will add their favorites...

1) "A random walk down Wall Street" - Burton Malkiel. *****. A simple yet comprehensive guide, with historical explanations, of investment strategies.

2) "The Psychology of Money" - Morgan Housel. *****. An entertaining analysis of how people think about money. Not a source for specific strategies but very informative and entertaining.

3) " The Little Book of Common Sense Investing" - John Bogle. ***** Very example oriented comparison of ETF and Index fund performance compared to managed funds and purchasing individual stocks.

4) " The Bogleheads Guide to Investing" - Taylor Larimore. *** Good content, similar to #3 in that it compares index investing with low cost ETF's but just not as well written or as entertaining of a read.

5) The Simple Path to Wealth" - J.L. Collins. *** A lot of great stuff on whole market index strategies but Narrow on asset allocation in more that one sector in my opinion.

Also feel free to list podcast you follow. I listen to Taylor Gardners "Your Money Guide on the side"

Millionaire Next Door changed my thinking fundamentally. Before then I thought those driving expensive cars and flashing other markers were rich.

Think and Grow Rich & Millionaire Next Door are the only two books you ever need to read on the subject IMHO.

I've turned into a big fan of the podcast "Risk Parity Radio"

Howard Marks' podcast "The Memo" is very good.

I also search out podcast appearances by Cliff Asness and Bill Nygren and listen to all of those. Jeff Gundlach and Paul Tudor Jones are also ones that I listen to/watch on YouTube whenever they pop into my feed.

It really depends on what specific niche of finance you're interested in. FIRE is pretty high on my list right now, so I tend to lean toward that in my preferences. But for some I just really like listening to very smart people talking about their area of expertise.

This will always be my first recommendation because it was the first influential finance book I read. I think it's a great gift to young adults.

The Millionaire Teacher changed the way I spend money and invested. I'm so happy I read that at age 31 and wish I had read it at age 21. It's become a standard high school graduation gift for nieces and nephews.

The Bogleheads Guide to Investing was a good follow-up for more detail.

I did not like Rich Dad Poor Dad. Like at all.

I will read The Millionaire Next Door soon.

I listened to Simple path to work while I was driving around Kenedy and Karnes City for work in 2016. I've made some not-so smart financial decisions since graduating college but listening to this book has really made up for those and put my future retirement back on track

Funny you say that, as I'd never really thought about that until last week. I usually listen to the Bigger Pockets Money podcast on my drive to work. They ask their guests their favorite finance book at the end of the show. On one of the episodes I listened to last week, the guest's answer was the book of Proverbs.

Lots of wisdom there.

I've given some copies of Dave Ramsey's Total Money Makeover to people. His cautions against consumer debt are lessons many young people do not start out with. Good stuff.

I've read a lot of books in this genre, and my favorite is Psychology of Money. There is no close second in my opinion.

Be aware there are lots of best-sellers with awful advice. Probably the worst is Rich Dad Poor Dad.

Great podcast

it's actually a little too "pop" investing

they use very broad analytics such as the entire Fed Reserve "spending rate" and they just take a generic "8% compounding per year for 30 year" when they do an analysis

I am sure for their actual paying clients they do better- but a lot of their podcast is "rah rah if you have 2 million at age 75 you are doing great the plane is on the landing approach!"

Erin Talks Money is even better when it comes to retirement planning.

I read those two this year and now I am reading 'The Art of Spending Money' these books all kind of build on each other though there is some conflicting ideas that have been interesting to ponder on to come to my own conclusion.
