I dont hate Spirit, but they obviously weren't my preference either. Once you learned what to expect you digested the expected delays better. That said, they offered competition. I just looked up flights to the route I'd take to the Carribean, and theyre no longer flying there. Prices have jumped 40% across all the carriers.

The merger should've happened. Low cost flying will be taking a hit, and flying in general flat out sucks. If these carriers are charging these prices, I want 60s style flying.

They just announced they have flown their last public passenger flights and are winding down operations. They are now working to get their crews back to their home cities.

Flown them a few times out of necessity. Never had a bad experience but definitely not pleasant. Hate to see this though.

Less options = bad for travelers.

Actually, there are fewer options, but a lesser airline certainly got removed from the playing field.

So the passengers got screwed. What about pilots and stewardesses? Do they have to catch another flight at another airline?

My guess is passangers should attempt charge backs with their credit cards. Stranded crew will likely lean on their union to secure flights home on other airlines.

I wouldn't be surprised if rival airlines offer discounts to stranded passengers. If they want to market to new customers, ripping them off with an expensive walk up fare won't make a very good first impression.

United offering free flights for spirit employees and discounts for spirit customers for the next 3 weeks.

They will ferry crew back to bases on their own planes, or they can deadhead on other airlines.

I've only flown spirit a couple times but never really had a bad experience. If you knew what you were getting and kept expectations in check they weren't bad at all. Kinda surprised some politicians didnt orchestrate a bail out, buy a bunch of stock before bail out went public, and then profit big . I was expecting that.

Spirit was delisted over a year ago. Probably explains why they didn't do it, since they couldn't leech off the opportunity.

Attempted merger with JetBlue was 86-ed by Pocahontas and Biden DOJ.
