Get to Know ... A&M point guard Jordan Jones

On attending DeSoto High School and the role A&M played in her childhood...

“They really didn’t play that much of a role in my childhood but growing up when I went to DeSoto High School, Sydney Carter did eventually come back and talk to us about the program at A&M and Von Miller came back and spoke to the football team about A&M. Just hearing those impactful voices and the impact that they made on the University, and we were almost so much alike, I feel like I can have that same impact and that same spirit and feeling that they felt when they came to A&M."

On her brother Matt, a sophomore at Duke, and their competitive nature...

“Always, always (had that back-and-forth competition). We would stay outside until about midnight playing basketball in our socks if our shoes broke because nobody wanted to lose. We would really just play tough on each other, even though I was a girl he still didn’t take it easy on me and I didn’t want him to because it eventually made me better.”

On how her aspirations of being a lawyer or playing in the WNBA have changed since coming to A&M...

“Not necessarily you know, more so a lawyer than the WNBA but if that opportunity does present itself then I’ll graciously take it but my main aspiration is becoming a lawyer and pursuing that dream.”

On herself and Courtney Walker leading the team on and off the court...

“It’s very important because we’re mainly the vocal points of this team and everybody looks up to us but in different ways. Courtney Walker is more of a silent leader and I’m more of the vocalist, so you know if Courtney Walker isn’t enthused or playing the way she’s supposed to then the team doesn’t really respond well to that. If I’m not being lively and talking and encouraging and being a leader then they don’t really respond to that as well either. Both of us really have to be on our P’s and Q’s for this team to be successful.”

On what a national championship would mean to the team...

“It would be great. Oh my goodness it would be so awesome, I can’t even explain it. We’ve talked about it all summer and sometimes I just sit in my room and I pray everyday you know because I feel like I just ask God, ‘Come on God you know I really want this, just bring it to me and bring it to this city.' It would be so awesome because Coach Blair already has one and he’s worked so hard to build this program and I feel like this team can be the team to bring him another one."
