We had a 21-15 lead with 0:48 to go in the 1st and were outscored 65-38 the rest of the way. Cut it to 5 at 57-52 with 1:29 left in the 3rd and were outscored 23-6 from then on.

Chalk it up to the fact the FSU hit their shots and we didnt make or sometimes take good ones

Loss might be the best thing to get this team motivated after barely beating Rice at the buzzer and now a 20 point loss to a good FSU team

I would rather this happen early in the season and as previously stated hopefully this will be a wake up call for this team. There is a lot of potential, but they are going to need balanced scoring and tough defense from everyone.

There are no moral losses in a 22 point loss everyone. With high rankings comes high expectations and we should expect more from these ladies. In the game of basketball teams will have off nights on the offensive end but great teams tend to control their defense, hustle, and energy. We need to simply do better.

Watched the game live. And without Wells and Carter on the court, the team played like a HS Junior Varsity team...

It was ugly. A&M just does not play defense against good opponents. FSU ran the same 2-3 plays over and over and Starkey had no answer for it. FSU was hot shooting the ball, but A&M had some miserable offensive possessions and were out rebounded. And when Carter has an off shooting night like tonight, A&M has no chance to win. It will be interesting to see how we respond after an embarrassing blowout on national television.

Agree w Gap! Took my Grandaughter to watch carter, she loved it ! Basket had lid on it in 1Q especially for #40.

FSU shot uncanny, would have liked to see India J. get ball more early (she got in Foul trouble later. She is gonna be good.

I have not liked Starkey's defense since day 1 of his hire. The Aggies have the ability, especially this year, to press and play pressure defense. They are at their best when they play aggressive.

We were there. Any, Bob, and Kelly were mostly quiet on the bench, as though they had been instructed not to engage. Very odd.

They were hot. We were cold. Our defense didn't find the extra gear to make them uncomfortable. Their defense kept us uneven though we certainly got our shots.

Chennedy DQing hopefully isn't a trend. She last year did that when frustrated. But had it under control this year. Yes...she is passionate and harnesses that to play hard. But I'll suggest she doesn't need a reputation of that in her game.

I agree with Gap: it's one game. And a loss happens even to the best team. If it leads to a great conversation on making the opponent uncomfortable via defense (or even trash talking) then that's a great way to build a takeaway from a setback.

Now with that said: apparently Chennedy almost got T'ed up for something she said. Don't trash talk the refs...

I didn't get to watch most of the game, but when I talked to a high school coach this morning she said she knew in the first quarter the Aggies would not win this game. The comment that stood out was she said it looked like the players were mad at each other. Did anyone else that was there at the game notice anything? Also, what little I watched Gary looked uptight and I noticed the assistants didn't have much to say either.

Any thoughts?

I was not there, but have attended or watched all of all the games this year.

This was the first good team we have played. I think our players got frustrated re several things......
Carter and Johnson basically getting all the shots early with Johnson going 0-7 to start
Jones getting in early foul trouble
The refs in general
Some over the back rebounds by FSU
Some uncanny shooting by FSU
As the game moved on Carter was trying to do too much and took some bad shots
Woolfolk out played Carter

It is also possible that we were out coached and some of the things the team was prepared for
was not what the team saw

The game is still about making shots,,,,FSU shot 53.3% and our Ags 39.7%, When Carter goes 8-22 and Johnson starts 0-7, this team will struggle and the frustration will set in.

Thanks for the input. I thought with Johnson we had a post that could hit her shots, but she has missed an awful lot of shots under the basket. I hope this is just a temporary slump and she gets going.

I think Johnson has improved this year overall,,,,just a tough start vs FSU....but part of it was playing a good athletic team that is well coached, rebounds very well and plays good D. Johnson will need to up her game and will have that chance vs, OSU this Saturday.

If we would have made all our 2-ft shots, we would have won the game. If we would not have let a jillion passes, loose balls, and rebounds slip through our fingers, we would have won. Very disappointing showing. Tells me this team will end up being like many others in recent years.

I stayed off the boards after Saturday's night. Terrible weekend for all Aggie sports, but I watched the game last night (not knowing the score or outcome)

  • We do not have a defensive stopper. That on-ball get in your face lock-down stopper. In a team full of role players we need that!
  • Washington has regressed. For some reason she is afraid to take the shot and teams are backing off.
  • Carter needs to be rotated out. When she is fatigued her shot selection and percentage drops. When tired she watches others when they have rhe ball and picks up frustration fouls. On the flip side when she is under control and fresh she is the best in the country. Michael Jordan didn't play 40 mins either.
  • FT are going to lose games for us.
  • As someone posted above. We are best when we play aggressive on defense. I don't totally buy that the officials made us back out of it. When playing aggressive you can't go half way else you pick up dumb fouls and sit on the bench.
  • GB has about 800 more wins than me, but not using the bench is hurting the production of starters.
  • FSU is very good. They were more battle tested than we were. I think later in the year it would be a different game. We aren't their yet. I look for FSU to make elite 8.

Realistically Shambria is often bringing the ball across the mid-court line and passing it to Chennedy. The question is to what extent is the offense from there following the game plan or not??

I think Chennedy feels more responsibility for offense when she is less efficient. But also the efficiency of the others is also affected by good defense. And I think Blair equates a short rotation with in-season conditioning and sharpness.

I've moaned about this the past two years and, sure enough, down the stretch and into the postseason our starters were fit enough to handle 40 minutes. It seemed to cost us a win or two during the season, but we ended up better for it in the end.

If this team is going to have a deep run, it's going to be because Carter and Johnson can give 40 solid minutes with good effort and good decision-making. And getting to that point is going to have its ups and downs.

Not trying to be a GB sycophant but I've come to realize GB coaches to win in March. Over the 30 years I've watched him coach, sometimes his strategy worked. Sometimes it didn't. But it worked these past two years and, as a result, I give him the benefit of the doubt. The fact is, he sees and coaches to the big picture as well as anyone coaching today.
