I'm going to show my ignorance of the internal organization of the WBB team , but Im assuming that RudyBryan is in fact a staff member or someone who is extremely close to Coach Blair.

Those of us who are not as" connected" as RudyBryan apparently is are expressing an overall concern with the fact that this team was positioned as the deepest and most experienced team that Gary has had in years and that it was legitimate to expect a possible run to the Final Four.

In the absence of specific details as to Carters return we are left with wondering if this team can win big in her absence. Can we see similar responses from the entire bench that we have seen from N'Dea? Isn't it fair to note who isn't picking up the slack ?
well Dog you are dead wrong I am not a staff member.......I do know Coach Blair but we don't eat, drink or hang out together. I follow Aggies WBB since 2003 before that I was a UCONN fan.....have always watched college games on TV I have traveled to see Aggies that have played in WNBA I knew.....built friendships over the last 17 yrs with parents/kids ---- when we were in the big XII we had alot of us that traveled....been to BigXII tournaments, NCAA tournaments....read alot of blogs, watch a lot of games, listen to radio shows and go to our monthly luncheons.....that is how you stay plugged in

FYI For the 2019 season, three of the WNBA's top-five picks will be paid $53,537 Jackie Young, Lou Samuelson, and Teaira McCowan.

Chennedy Carter is to women's basketball what Johnny Football was to football. With her, we are very good; without her we are an average basketball team with a few good nights. When you lose 23 plus points a game and you don't replace it with someone that can consistently replicate that output you're in trouble. We are in trouble.

With regards to depth, we don't and probably will never have numerous 4 and 5 star players sitting on the bench. We don't have the pedigree of a Connecticut to warrant that, unfortunately. I think coach Blair hand picks 4-5 good athletes and unless you fit his mold and in his system you are going to struggle with playing time. But maybe I'm wrong, do other elite programs have starters that consistently play less than 30-32 minutes a game? I don't know those stats.

Okay maybe I was too harsh. I'd say we are far above average, and watching N'dea improve this season has been a highlight for sure. If we could get Ciera more consistent, then they could be a pretty powerful force. N'dea seems to be more agile, and knows how to find her way to the basket. She is quickly becoming a force.

I guess the bottom line is, I feel we may realistically only have one loss if Chennedy was still on the floor. Selfishly, I hope she returns bc she's so much damn fun to watch. I would LOVE to see her return for her senior season, but I'm fairly certain it's a forgone conclusion that she is moving on.

$53,000 a year doesn't seem worth leaving a year early and forgoing any opportunity to ever coach since you won't have a degree. What am I missing?

It is 53K in the WNBA, but there is reportedly a lot more money playing overseas
Agree Carter will not risk her ankle to come back sooner for the team if at all.

I'm not sure how the numbers for the WNBA max compensation from the same article work but it is good money and even more is available overseas. Plus, you can come back and pick up whatever hours remain for your degree. It love to have Chennedy return but couldn't blame her for leaving.

Paragraph 1 - "the WNBA's top players will be able to earn more than $500,000"

Paragraph 2 - "the WNBA maximum base salary will rise to $215,000"

From the WSJ:

Quote:

Under the new collective-bargaining agreement, the WNBA's top players will be able to earn more than $500,000. The average cash compensation for players will reach nearly $130,000 and result in an increase for all players from rookies to veterans.

Quote:

Under the new deal, the WNBA maximum base salary will rise to $215,000, up from $117,500 in 2019. Even the new maximum would be a fraction of the seven-figure salaries that top women's players can earn playing in China, Russia and Turkey. But WNBA leaders hope the salary bump encourages players to commit to the league rather than spending their off-seasons playing overseas.

Thanks for the info. When the women start leaving early for the pros, then I'm likely to lose interest in the sport. It's disappointing enough - - - as a fan - - - when it happens in other sports.
