Hopefully the Ags come out strong and dominate ISU. The Troy players on their Twitter pages are talking smack about our team and the refs.
One even retweeted they hope ISU beats us. Still doesn't help with that awful commentary basically backing Troy throughout the whole game.
The Commentators seemed thrilled it had become a game, and then swung whole-hog behind the underdog near the end of the game. I thought that we did get a break late when the throw in was touched by one of our players in the front court and then passed on into the backcourt. However, I looked at the rules, and though not entirely clear, Under Rule 7, Article 12 it states
"After the throw-in ends, an inbounds player in the frontcourt who is not in control of the ball may cause the ball to go into the backcourt." That throw-in ends, I believe, is in regard to the clock starting.
The commentators noticed some fouls they doubted committed by Troy but did not note the same fouls occurring, particularly against Johnson who got totally mugged a few times without a call. Overall the referees let them play, and it was pretty equal
The two forwards from Troy were outstanding. I think we would have worn them down more if we had patiently worked the ball in on a consistent basis. Instead, we got tempted into playing their type of game for too much time and nearly gave the game away on turnovers. Troy would sucker us into long throws on which they could break like a football secondary and pick the pass off. That generally got them going on a successful fast break. We ultimately were just too good for Troy. We had best not depend on that against a good, and always well-coached Iowa State team.
But overall, Congratulations Lady Ags for staying tough in adversity and finding the means to hang on to a game that just about got out of control. I suspect this is a good lesson learned. The Longhorn's men's team could probably use your lessons on that!!
