they were 15 of 24 (62.5%) going into last 5 minutes.

Made 1 of 6 to end the game, including one block.

we upped our D and guarded closer at the end
3 point shooters legs typically a little tired late in games

3 pt shooting offset by their 24 turnovers to our 7.

Usually you see this and think the team with 7 tos won by 10-12.

Their 3 point shooting was fire. Trading 2 for 3 doesn't usually work out that well for the 2 squad.

Still trying to figure out how we did it.

Folks are not thinking about what 16 of 31 3 point shooting does for a team, especially when they are also out-rebounding us, primarily due to the caroms on the 3 point misses. If they had hit their normal 3 point percent they would have hit only 10 or 11 of those. That is 15-18 points less and we would have led most of the game and won easily. As it was, 24 turnovers and 11 blocks ended up making the difference. This team finds a way to win. I would not bet against them in any game. Some of our best shooters were cold most of the game. First quarter we were just flat cold. After that, shot after shot rimmed out.

I would like to see Gary start off of with full court pressure to throw Arizona off rhythm for the first 3-4 minutes. That should stop them from getting a hot start while our shooting settles down. We certainly are capable of making the final four, and even going all the way. However, if one of the higher ranks comes out as hot as Iowa State remained through almost all of the game, it will be very tough to beat them. Likewise for them if we come out that hot.

They were unconscious from three for most of the game. Overall I was impressed with #24. She could dribble with both hands, rebound, defend and shoot from inside and outside. Put her in maroon and we win by 20.

#21 Lexi Donarski was a beast too. She has a very pure stroke.

In most games, I am in favor of full court pressure to create some turnovers and slow a team down from getting in their half court O.

Only if...
1. we are not fouling
2. we get set in our half court D and don't allow some easy baskets

We need to do whaever gets the other team out of their comfort zone in running their O.

In today's Zona game if we are in man, I expect to see Wilson on McDonald and Jones on Reese...both are 6'2.
If we are in a zone, I figure it will be a match up with those same two battles

If Zona is set trying to take Nixon out of her game, I think Jordan will get the ball to her teammates as usual.

I have a feeling they may challenge Nixon early to see if she's able to repeat that shooting percentage. If she is still hot, they could be in trouble bc that opens the offense for us and changes how they have to defend.

Should be a great game. Let's win this thing! Gig'em!

Zona's game is scoring in transition off their D...so, the main thing for us is not to have the kind of turnovers that result in Zona fast break scores! I don't think Zona scores that well in their half court O.

Was that the freshman guard who popped the net nearly every time she hit a 3. For you younger guys, her shots did not hit the rim. Absolutely sweet stroke.

Our pressure defense disrupted Iowa State though they got a couple of easy baskets. However, they were not particularly good at driving to the basket nor did they have the height to go against Johnson at the goal after a break. I just don't want to allow Arizona to get settled in and get comfortable. If we could have shaken up Iowa State early and kept them uncomfortable, we likely would have won more easily Of course, as said, break-aways against pressure defense often result in fouls and/or easy goals, and therein lies the downside of an inadequate pressure defense.
