Phoenix Mercury select Ciera Johnson 32nd overall in the 2021 WNBA Draft
Ciera Johnson was selected 32nd overall by the Phoenix Mercury in the 2021 WNBA Draft on Thursday night.
A Louisville transfer originally out of Duncanville, Johnson made her tenure in College Station worthwhile. After sitting out in 2017-18 due to NCAA transfer rules, Johnson made up for the loss of time and started every game for the Aggies from her sophomore year on.
Excelling on and off the court, Johnson was named the SEC’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year following Texas A&M’s 2020-21 campaign.
In her three seasons in Aggieland, Johnson averaged 11.8 and 7.6 rebounds per game.
As a senior, Johnson scored 18 points and grabbed a career-high of 18 rebounds in the season-opener against Lamar on Nov. 25. Johnson continued the season on a strong note as she opened SEC action with a 15-point, 10-rebound performance against Florida on Jan. 3.
Before her college career, Johnson was rated the No. 1 post player in the 2016 recruiting class by ESPN HoopGurlz. Johnson also played in the McDonald’s All-American Game and the Jordan Brand Classic.
For the Aggies, Ciera Johnson is fourth in program history with 21 double-doubles.
