Last figure I heard is that the NBA supplements a reported 1 billion/year (this number is very, very wrong, not reliable information, don't quote it) to keep the league afloat… and to keep tax exempt status.

Source for that figure? Everything I found in a google search puts the annual subsidy in the $10-12 million dollar range.
