They tried to get the bigs involved early, but they were, unfortunately, just ineffective. Lots of turnovers, offensive fouls, and awful shot selection - one and done. I did see GB and team make important defensive changes as the game unfolded.
In terms of bigs, idk what to think. Roby was not good in the first half and then she played brilliantly in the 4th quarter. Really really good stuff. Patty struggled again offensively - just absolutely nothing would fall for her, but she hustled her butt off and blocked shots, changed shots on the defensive side, and can jump to the rim for rebounds. So she is effective in that sense. Malone has lots of talent but makes young mistakes. Johnson didn't get much playing time in this game for some reason? Perry didn't touch the floor.
Jones looked great in the second half. I believe GB has given Nixon the green light to consider herself a shooting guard even when she has to bring the ball up the court as the point guard. KKGreen seems to have much better ball control and plays less frantically than MGreen, but it seems she also wants to be a scorer instead of an offensive ball distributor.
All in all this team has so much potential. Certainly this is the most offensively explosive team that I think we've ever had. And although I have been worried about our defensive transitions, I have been impressed how the team has handled themselves defensively.
I will say this about MGreen. I really like her. She tries so so so hard and you can tell how badly she wants it. I want her to be successful. I don't remember her being this frantic last year. Maybe it's nerves? Idk.
The next 2 games for this team will be tough. Very tough. We have to start better and hold on in the next 2 games.
