It isn't bare, just the pieces don't fit. The lack of knowledge and confidence is the biggest hole
If there is any leftover talent, then why were they so bad last year? The post players that were bad last year are still bad. The backup guards are still backup talent but getting starter minutes. Barker is the only real player they have and she's a fish. Big rebuild job here.cbmik95 said:

Y'all we knew this was going to happen. We were picked to finish 11th in the SEC. We are very very young and it's obvious based on this game. Lots of incredible talent but this is a completely different defensive and offensive system. I'm encouraged tbh. To expect a freshman and sophomore team to compete with seniors and grad transfers at this point in the season is naive.

Coaching my friend. Coaching was terrible. Player development wasn't there. KayKay green was a top 50 player, Sydney Roby was top 75. Jada Malone was top 75. While that doesn't always translate, you can't tell me that Blair completely missed on his whole team. There is some talent there, just no knowledge of what the f&$& is happening.

Duke has 10 of those for one and most have experience far beyond ours. And you can have top 75 girls but if they don't fit your system it doesn't matter how good they are. It's game 3 against a good team give it some time. This team didn't even have 200 combined starts before the season started.
Coach Blair's team was bad last year and we don't have any real talent on the team this season from his recruiting over the past 2 to 3 years.
It'll take more than a summer for Coach Taylor to develop those players within her system. Duke isn't a good matchup for the smaller guards on this roster as they only play 2, both of whom are more experienced within the SYSTEM they run. You can't expect Joni to coach effort and I saw a lack of that tonight by a number of players. Truth is (and I said this in the summer) a 14-15 team lost over half of the points over half of the minutes almost all the assists and most of the shooting as well. The whole backcourt and the 4th guard all gone and y'all thought it was gonna be a seamless transition because we have talent? Everybody in P5 has talent.
I was hoping for a bit more competitive game, but given our player experience and new system to adapt once this got away, it got away. I'm still all in! I think we have a season ahead of losing some games we shouldn't, pulling off some fun upsets, and just learning/growing along the way! I still think the future is bright with Coach Taylor and Co.
I didn't see a lack of effort at all. I saw a team that was gassed and exhausted and a bit unsure of themselves. They were shredded by Duke's cutting and passing (which coach Taylor talked about in her radio show a day or so before the game), and although we kept pace with them early, their senior leadership took over. I think at times our most lethal scorers are a bit too unselfish. Maybe one or two too many passes, but I am super excited about what I saw. It's a huge shift from what we are used to and they will improve.
Coach Taylor was the right hire, and I believe she will be very successful, here or somewhere else in time. The learning curve for this team is steep, and this season is likely to be very positive regarding development but forgettable for its record. Keep the faith.
I feel much more hopeful for the WBB season than the MBB after their poor showing
Anybody who doesn't think we don't have talented freshmen needs to change their tennis shoes for cleats and take a look at a top freshmen class loaded with 5 stars in our football team.......they are having same problem different sport...they need time to learn a new system, etc.........there is a huge difference between high school and college and a bigger gap between college and pro ball. Give them a chance ......
One of the biggest mismanagement examples was the admin keeping Blair as long as they did. On top of that at 1 million a year. When the AD allows a hole to be dug deeper each year it will take longer to climb out.

If you include Hylton, the 3 Freshmen are 33/80(41%) from the field and 11/23(48%) from 3!(rest of the team 5/22) They have scored 89 of the teams 194 points(46%) have 15 of the teams 38 assists(39%) 14 of the teams 28 steals(50%) Through 3 games. Let's all calm down and see how it plays out. The freshman are fine if you had to ask em.
In a way, I think that they're used to a different style of coaching, I think it'll get better as the older players realize that if you get into the paint and make a good decisions make miss or kickout, that's fine as long as you put pressure on the defense. A lot of those girl left in the cupboard just don't have the experience. It's year 1 parity at an all time high. Let's try to be .500 and see growth from everybody.(that would be better than last year) Positive vibes only.

Doesn't change the fact that he made no effort to develop his last 1 or 2 recruiting classes on his way out. Knowing it was gonna be his last season and grabbing a grad transfer guard in Hoppie instead of giving more playing time to the Greens or Sahara seems like a miscalculation. If Nixon is well enough in body and mind to come back for one more season we're probably having a different conversation, but the reality is, most of the teams' talent and experience left the team this past offseason and Blair didn't make it a point to get some of younger players meaningful minutes and experience last season. McKinzie has always had reliable outlets in Nixon, Pitts, and Wells, now for the first time in her college career she's being asked to run and lead an offense, with players who are all running it for the first time. It's not only the freshman who are adjusting. I know we haven't had a new coach in a long time but, this is what happens when a head coach and 3.5 starters all leave in the same summer.

In the last three years with all the rule changes ie transfer portal, NIL, recruting has completely changed....
So Carolina WBB program. NIL allows every player to receive $25,000 ...........how much are we doing?
